I have the same winter rims and I think they look great !!

 

Where are you guys buying or finding your steel wheels at? I would like to get a set to put on dedicated mud tires

Stock lugnuts won't fit with the steel rims.

Do you guys put some extra weight into the truckbed over winter?

 

I have thrown in sandbags in the past, but I've got a canopy, hilift, and toolbox back there that add enough to keep it from sliding around.

 

You'll need the tapered acorn lugnut for steelies. The stock (alloy) lugnuts are a flat bottom not

I use sand bags. They can be broken up for traction if needed and if they get wet they won’t get salt water everywhere. Also in the Spring I don’t have to store them somewhere. Just dig them into the vegetable garden.

 

My stock lugs do have a taper on the bottom that matches the rims it’s just not as long of a face. I asked my tire guy who sold me the set if it was dangerous to run the stock mag bolts and he said yes but not for the reasons stated. He said the danger is the corrosion on the washer which causes the mags to loosen in the summer.

I would spray the center and lugs with the rust preventative of your choosing and call it good. Something like cosmoline might be better than fluid film for wash off resistance

 

You can cover it but it’ll still rust...the iron content is huge. Scrape it with a wire brush and hit it with rustoleum. Don’t mask anything...they’re just cheep steelies

 

I hated the lack of offset on my 16" spare tire steelies, but if you bend one, its 70$ to fix.

Alwaaaaaaays get 16" for winters. It's cheaper, it doesnt allow ice build up inside the rim/caliper and its lighter.

 

You need to keep the rumour going. We all live in igloos and only us dog sleds.
