I spent 30 years in the business and was a service manager for about half that time.

First off, let me say that NOTHING sucks balls as much as having your brand new and relatively expensive vehicle take a crap on you so soon after purchase. I can only imagine the OP’s disappointment and angst over his truck breaking.

But, I can tell you from personal experience, that walking in with an attitude that you are due some sort of special treatment because you are angry and then demanding a more expensive vehicle to replace yours is going to elevate you to instant asshole status.

All they are obligated to do is to properly repair your vehicle. If there is damage to a part, it will, of course be replaced. But lets say in your case, if it only needs a new head, that’s all it’s going to get. Acting like a spoiled brat is not going to speed the repair, nor will it change the nature of it.

I have a feeling that the OP is a younger person and hasn’t dealt with this kind of situation before. I have found out over the years that it’s better to wait for a while before shifting into asshole mode.

But if this thread gets closed we’ll never know what color TRD Pro Toyota decided to give the OP :D

    Lots of things true here

    1. OP got jobbed. $40k trucks should not break down 300 miles in. Sorry that’s unacceptable. Fixing it under warranty is fine when the job is done in a day. Two weeks of runaround is absurd. But as long as they’ve given you a loaner you’re not really out anything.

    2. OP also clearly wants to bilk it for all it’s worth. Dude just bc there’s an issue doesn’t mean they owe you the moon.

Japan kept the 3.5 as well, and it's a Lexus engine.

3.5 is one of Japan's best designs, that's why it's used in so many models.

Has nothing to do with being produced in Japan. Toyota began the phase out of the 1GR years ago with the last minor refresh of the Tundra....replacing it with the 4.6. The next vehicle to drop it was the current Tacoma in '15. The last available vehicle in N American to have the 1GR is the 4Runner. With it's rework soon to come up....it will most certainly get the 2GR. That's how Toyota operates. It's much more cost effective to change powertrains during remodels

Just my two cents - I had my 13 sport Tacoma DCLB with 175K miles and no issues whatsoever! Truck was solid and a beast! Now I have my 20 sport Tacoma DCLB with 17K, yesterday 1 year anniversary and no issues ! Had both drive trains 4.0 and 3.5 and both running strong ! My dad has 96 T-100 4WD 3.4 with 123K miles and that truck a beast! My fiancé has 20 Rav and it’s a solid SUV. My point is- Toyota’s reputation speaks for itself . I’m 99.9% sure I’m not the only one that has had great success with Toyota . Hence- Tacoma resale value....

I’m no master tech- yet I did work R&D for a major Japanese auto & motorcycle OEM. I did a lot of testing on off- road and street motorcycles with engineers from Japan. I’ve learned the culture and passion that goes into the Japanese style of manufacturing and it’s damn right impressive. So not just Toyota, but all other Japanese auto manufacturers produce great product. So give Toyota an opportunity to correct error if that’s the case.

    Good luck.

Lexus has been having trouble for yrs with broken valve springs as far back as 2008. I just hit a couple forums and came up with several broken valves springs on 350's, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2013, at one point toyota increased the dia of the spring. Lots of past Lexus 350 owners out there angry over this.

These are all good points , it might just be a fluke so let Toyota make it right. I have a bad paint issue on my 2018 and I’m hoping Toyota will help. Not gonna say don’t buy tacos just yet.

But it’s Friday , and I have been good for a few weeks on TW , so it’s troll time :

when the electric pickups start rolling out let’s see how they will make buying a Tacoma :

-no paint (cyber truck) to worry about fade , chips or worse rust!(taco frames yikes )
-no need for regear, 4wd engagement, lockers, t-case as (electric motor has instant torque and one electric motor per wheel, R1)
-no engine , trans , t case = no fluids service. Just a diff on some EVs.
-no need for aftermarket skids/protection as the entire truck is effectively a skid plate.
-altitude(low Oxygen for engine) and incline (Stall motor or burn oil on steep climbs) do no effect operation . Also no worry about sucking in dust or water into the engine.
-low center of gravity for stability at speed or low roll over risk on steep inclines

if you were to go thread by thread on TW imagine how many issues or complaints would not even be an issue with a EV truck...
