Tacoma bed rail t nuts?

I wanted to get some T nuts for my tacoma bed rails to mount the bed rack I'm building. The issue is that every single t nut that says for tacoma has a 7/8" body width, when the slot is 1 inch. It's super frustrating because the 7/8 "works", but it doesn't fully engage the rail and it looks like it will pull out if you really tighten it. This is super annoying that not ONE company has realized it's super loose and made one at 1". The other issue is that I can go to mcmaster or grainger and just get a generic t nut. But the frustrating thing is that I can only get stainless up to 7/8". And my truck is exposed to weather so obviously I would want it to be stainless. Has anyone found any good t nuts that fully engage and are stainless?

They have stainless up to 1 1/16

 

No lead on 1" stainless t-nuts, but aluminum will work and is weather resistant. Just make sure it is thick enough and it won't strip when you tighten it. I had a Surco Safari Rack and cross bars on an old XJ Cherokee a few years ago. the whole set up was aluminum and all the t-nuts were as well. I had a Front Runner Featherlite roof top tent, Fiama Awning, Front Runner double jerry can holder, and a Hardigg case attached to the cross bars using aluminum t-nuts and stainless bolts. Never had an issue in the 3 +years I drove it with that set up.

I like the GFC quarter turn nuts. A little pricey maybe, but super convenient and made specifically for tacoma rails.

 

You don't want to torque them too hard.

I don't recall how much I spent on mine but, I think it was the same. I still think they are great, especially with how much the ones supplied by other vendors rust.

Call me picky but I've also been trying to get one in 3/8-16 as I got a bunch of stainless bolts to build the rack

 

why anyone uses imperial sizing on a Tacoma is beyond me. (Well no, it’s just being cheap/lazy/not thinking of consumer). I absolutely refuse to by anything aftermarket that’s not metric. Last thing I need is to carry around more tools.

 

I welded a nut/washer together, then ground the washer flat on 2 sides to fit in the track. Use whatever size bolts/nuts you want/have/feel the need to. The bolt tightening thru the nut will push into the track and hold everything secure.

I agree, I leave all my SAE tools at home now. My 1982 F250 was a nightmare, some SAE and some metric. And they had 18mm bolt heads with nothing from Europe or Japan ever used. Lucky I had wrench sets with those sizes.

 

..Tee Nuts? jeez I hate Tee Nuts...maybe I hate Tacoma bed rails more, but whatever...

 

I just don't get how every seller is selling these at the wrong size. And if you want metric, then make it at 25mm

 

@Alexbar10 It looks like McMaster Carr has exactly what you are asking for, or am I missing something? Is the top too wide or something on the 1 in base nuts?

 

Wanted something in 3/8 thread but I'll just suck it up and get some 1/2 bolts
