brake over ride fail

I tested the brake over ride that was suposed to be programed in to the ecu when they put in the new pedal, but it failed miserably.

Here is what I did (multiple times): I was driving (20ish), then I floored it, then hit the brakes. All it did was apply the brakes and engine still floored. So toyota you failed, just saying.

I really don't care for this "feature" that was supposed to be programed into the truck. I kinda find it funny that toyota failed at something where they just plug it into the computer (or maybe they didn't plug it in?).

 

Are you sure it was programmed into the truck?

I've had two different dealerships tell me different things. One dealership said it was reprogrammed and the other said the tacomas weren't affected by that part of the recall.

I've tried it on my truck a couple times and my truck did 'stumble' a bit. I'm just not exactly it was in affect. It's kinda hard to have both feet on pedals, watch where you're driving & watch the tach all at the same time (in the situation I was in).

Based on what I've tried, I'm uncertain if something was reprogrammed or not. Just didn't seem 'obvious' enough(to me) to know anything was working.

 

I thought the Tacoma version of the recall was just to replace the floormat as a safety. I was told verbally by the local dealer service manager that Tacomas never had the unintended acceleration problem like some other models.

 

When I had the recall performed they said it was 3 step- cut the pedal, remove the extra padding behind the pedal, and install the brake override software.

 

Wow, that's good news. Now I know I can torque brake if I ever want to. Dunno why I would, but it's nice to know I can =]

 

It may be that you just moved the gas pedal while applying the brake. Doing so cancels the override.

thanks for the link. So to activate it you have to be on the gas first and then push the brake. not brake and then gas..

 

I tried it on my wifes Camry before we traded it....actually on the way.. I could not get it to work, and it was flashed.. I might have done it wrong.

 

They said they would program it in to the system as that was part of the recall.

To me they said that they just cut/replace the pedal, then update the ecu which includes the brake over ride.

I had the pedal pushed all the way down to the floor, so it did not move, I then hit the brakes hard and all it did was keep it at full throttle and put on the brakes hard.

I see, I am pretty sure that I was pressing the brakes for more than a 1/2 second, but I will try it again and take account of how long I press the brakes for.

 

The Brake Override System is not active in
4WD vehicles while driving in low range.
