My son is on the 20 yard line, in the lead.

I am so proud of him.

    So....

I received a package on Halloween. Some might have guessed what it was.

    IMG_4256_post.jpg

I'm not really going to play "Guess what is in the box" now.

    It had a sticker....

    IMG_4258_rs.jpg

    Just kidding. It was this.

    IMG_7062_post.jpg

Yep. SSO Slimline bumper. Here, I am prepping it for paint.
While cleaning up the metal, I discovered that they actually stamped my initials in the bumper. How cool is that?

    IMG_7064_post.jpg

At this point I have primed it and started some of the painting.

    This will be continued..

I finally got the bumper mounted.

Now you can see why there was a little red in the painting.

This didn't take too long to actually install. I just had to put it off because of a family emergency.

Thanks. This bumper is so much better than the flimsy plastic cover on the front.

It was one of the first items I wanted to replace but took a little longer to actually pull the trigger on.

Thanks. I did the painting so that I could add my personal touch.

I'm now thinking about doing the stage 2.

    I have cutting tools. :sawzall:

Have you finished welding your new bumper?

I want to see it when it's done.

    I have been measuring....

All measurements are with about a half tank of gas.

This is my clearance before I put my SSO bumper on.

The only real extra weight, from stock, is the sliders. That really didn't amount to any change in clearance.

    Before-Bumper-Height.png

This is my clearance after putting my SSO bumper on.

    After-Bumper-Height.png

It looks like the weight of the bumper dropped my front end about 3/8 of and inch. I'd be curious about how much more a winch would drop the front.

This is still the Pro Fox suspension.

I'm still going to determine what I will do with the suspension. I'll have to go off-road to see how it now goes with my current setup.

Of course..... Those tires are going to be change eventually. I'm going to drive those into the ground... or pretty close to that.

Bumpers done and at powder coating. Tried to pick it up yesterday but its gonna take another week until it should be done(in matte black). Might take 2 more weeks to install if I cant pick it up before the holiday.
Depends on what winch's total weight. My Smitty x20 10k w/synthetic line weighs about the same as the bumper so it would likely put you around 3/4" drop .

I will go with a synthetic line for a winch. I'm looking at Smitty. Either the x20 or the XRC. They both weigh the same. The features are a little different and about $50 more for the XRC. The x20 will probably be more than enough for my needs.

For now, I'm going to rely on my "come-along" (farm jack - hi lift). I have snatch straps, tree savers, and straight straps. I rarely use those, so I'm not sure if a winch will really add any value for me.

I went x20 strictly for the wireless controller. I went with no cutouts in my slimline, not having to plug in the controller is what I wanted. The very few times I've used it its been great.

I've only ever used mine when I've been out wheeling at an offroad park and 1 time on a trip in Moab on a trail I tried to get out of running. I mainly got it because I go out solo more often than with others and I wanted the extra option to get myself through tough spots.

Well.... It's been a little while.

    I got this.

    IMG_4360.jpg

    And it goes with this...

    IMG_4361.jpg

    ... And this...

    IMG_4362.jpg

Now... I just have to find the time to install it.

It has been crazy around here.

A kitchen remodel is consuming all of my time outside of work.

Nice! Mine has worked pretty well for a couple years now. One heads up, the power switch on the control box is not water proof. It can get water/dirt in it causing a bad connection and the wireless stops working. Next time I can get to the control box I have a new switch to install thats supposed to fix that issue. It still works wired when that happens so its not completely broken when/if that happens.
