    Hey @buckhuntin-tacoma

    Story time. :)

You inspired me to get one.

    Yeah, I'm cheap. :notsure:

    Stock photo, not mine:

Ammunition is hard as Hell to find these days and very expensive.
Bulk military style 5.56 NATO /.223 certainly.
(Which is not nearly accurate enough for smallish varmints at long range anyway).
But even high quality ammo is scarce.
When I finally located some 55 grain thin jacketed .223 Sierra Blitzkings, I figured I'd better get 200 rounds.
    $300 bucks.

In my younger days, I shot many groundhogs with my Dad's "Triple Deuce" (.222 Remington).
Old Savage 54 bolt action, straight tube Weaver scope.
This was a popular combo for mid range target competition in the 50s-60s. Very accurate.
Under $2 for a box of 20 when the rifle came down to me in the 80s.
I finally sold that rifle ten years ago to a kid at the Club.
BTW, the .222 Remington was the parent cartridge for the (civilian standard) .223 and the hotted up military 5.56 NATO.

I'm definitely not the best shooter out there, but this will do for groundhogs...a shade under a 1 1/2" group.
Not bad for an AR15 shot off a bipod at 100 yards.

Get ready, you fucking garden destroying groundhogs.

I don’t think I can be away from NE forever. I would love to see Oregon and Washington someday, but I agree those pics of the desert are beautiful
