Winter/ Full Gas Tank

Is it necessary to keep your tank filled full during the winter months? Was wondering if moisture is a problem if the tank is not kept full.

I got my truck back last week after getting the recall for the low pressure full pump taken care of. I had to run up and down the road to get my gas tank down to 1/4 before I dropped it off. Hard for me to afford to fill the tank up so I just filled it half full. Was thinking about driving it till the gauge reads 1/4 tank again before putting another $20 in the tank.

Just concerned if the tank will draw moisture or not. Guess a guy could dump a bottle of HEET in the tank once a month.

Bring you truck back to dealer
Telling them that when you drop off your truck it full tank of gas
Then fill up at 1/2 to empty

 

You're probably already running gasoline with ethanol. Just keep it above the "E".
Much more likely that a water problem would be related to the recall repair then condensation.

To answer OP - I remember hearing that back in the day, so I always just followed it for whatever reason.
I'll typically drive to 1/2 a tank and fill it to Full as opposed to driving to E and filling to 1/2.
I'm also the person who has to round off to an even $ # though, so who knows.

 

I have never worried about it. I have consistently driven until the light comes on in summer and winter for 20+ years and had no problems.

 

Moisture was never the reason to keep your tank full in the winter too my knowledge. I was always taught to try and keep it above a half tank just for the extra weight.

 

Put gas in when it needs it.

I know a lot of people that swear by this recommendation. I’m pretty sure it’s a bunch of BS though.

Yeah I have always kept my tank full and filled it when it got between 1/2 and 3/4. My only income is a Military Disability benefit check each month. But now since my service dept. required the tank to be at 1/4 or lower before they would work on my truck I just don't have the money to fill it full again. And don't see having the money anytime soon. So I guess I won't worry about it and put $20 at a time in my truck.

I'd follow everyone else's advice and not worry about it. Years of my own irrational OCD automotive habits can not be undone LOL
