Agree with everything you say but this is unnecessary wear on the clutch. Revmatch or double clutch while downshifting will be smoother and prolong the life of the clutch, and all other components in the drivetrain really.

I just wanted to be a big shot and be able to tell everyone I had a manual at any possible opportunity so they know my skills are far superior to there own.

    In no particular order:

    1) Better control
    2) More fun
    3) Historically more reliable
    4) Less expensive to repair/replace
    5) Better fuel mileage?
    6) What I’ve heard here about AT Tacos

I don’t know man I did the mt-90 and pours like water. It shifts nice but seems to go into 1st a little harder from a dead stop now and then I think next round I’m going amsoil.

Driving manuals is fun. I wish I could have one. I refuse since I live in a city with lots of traffic. I don't wanna be in the gym daily trying to keep my right leg the same size as my left.

Comments like this amuse me; the Clutch in my Taco is probably the lightest and easiest one I've driven in a modern car or truck. I just had a Kennedy Stage III heavy-duty Clutch installed in my off-road car after it's turbo engine ate the previous light-duty Clutch I had been running (and abusing). Clutch effort in that car has increased quite a lot. Enough that driving it around town for ten minutes my left leg was sore.

Much like everything else in life, improvements have been made to make most things better, even Manual Transmissions.

Many years ago I got the brilliant idea to put a Hayes 300 series strip clutch in my daily. :smack: Pedal effort was brutal, the pin that the clutch pedal swings on broke 100 miles from home. My left leg was noticeably bigger around than my right. One positive, the clutch didn't wear at all -- after about 100K miles I took the car apart, the clutch still looked new.

Actually I think it’s better for towing. No searching for gears. You just pick the right gear for the situation and can downshift when needed.

Admittedly it has taken a good couple of thousands of miles of towing to get used to it and figure out the right gear. But now I do it without thinking.

I feel that with a manual I am always refining my driving skills. I never got that feeling with an automatic...mostly mindless driving.

I had a 2010 manual and replaced it with a 2020 auto. Only got auto b/c long bed. Biggest reason I liked the manual?

I know when to shift and the auto doesn’t. That simple

I think it’s actually been better since it’s been cold. It’s just been a little harder to get it into reverse and 1st but consistently. It’s been in the back of my mind ever since I put it in though just because of how thin it is

I have the MT because I think it makes me a safer driver and I know I enjoy driving an MT more (except maybe in terrible stop and go).

When I'm driving a manual I'm more engaged. I have to pay attention, I have to use both feet and hands, I have to pay attention to the truck, so I also end up paying more attention to the road. I notice that I'm less focused when I drive my wife's automatic.

I also think a manual is more responsive, but that's probably because it's always in the gear I want it to be in. An automatic can't always predict what I want, but a manual always does what I tell it to. I've always driven a manual and I'll keep driving one until I can't anymore.

To quote Jim Kirk about the Enterprise: "I give, she takes". And for clarity, I am talking about why I drive a m/t.......in this instance anyway.

I bought manual because it was $3,000 cheaper than an auto.

I'm not certain why I had to have a manual transmission. Many good reasons have been shared and I think fun factor is a part of it. I get to choose what gear I want. I don't believe an automatic will launch from a stop like a manual. The only drawback, and i was laughing about this today; going back 21 years when I met my girl, now my wife..she drove a beat up old mazda pickup with a manual, now when I let her drive my 2017 she has a couple annoying to me habits. So when coasting to a stop she has to rock that shifter back and forth more than necessary, lol, then..in and out of first gear uncertain if its 1st or not, then from second to third like she's stirring a cake batter or something to find third gear. I told her these new transmissions are pretty tight, not much of a H pattern there, just move it in that direction and it will go. She don't take too well to passenger driving. Just had to share
