I have opinions about a lot of things that are unorthodox to most. I really want to tell people my ideas but I have seen the other side way to much in my life. I'll never convince anyone, they have to learn the hard way like I did.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

You can state your opinion on anything you want. As long as you completely understand that 2+2=5 and the Ministry of Truth is your guide.

Twain and Vonnegut are my two favorite authors. Born almost 100 years apart and they both have the same things to say.

If you haven't read it pick up a copy of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Twain. It's a must read for any cynic.

A very interesting man as well. Like how he became "Mark Twain" was a real near story. Samuel Clemens was a god send to this world.

If I may offer a slightly different perspective. Many of you probably don't know but I am a site admin for a rather large motorcycle forum that offers a places for the discussion of topics like church, state, and money and jo-momma. For the most part, things go mostly OK but when they come off the rails, it sucks. Bad. There are times I wish the politics part didn't exist because when it gets nasty, it just ruins the whole reason for the site and it makes people who'd probably be fine discussing whatever in person into giant a-holes. Lately, it's more nasty. In the beginning, things were actually pretty good. But as more people joined and fewer people knew one another, the number of keyboard cowboys increased and the nasty took over.

It's difficult here because there are occasionally topics that would be appropriate to the forum or life in general but I get it. Not supposed to bring that here. I do kind of like that I don't have to put up with some of the same shit here as there and when I find something controversial, I just text or PM. I'll admit that once in a while, I'm sure my stuff skirts the line.

Anyway, careful what you wish for. I'd hate to see the place turn into something less useful. Which is not to say I don't value (or have) opinions. I do.

Totally get what you're saying. I don't think the problem is with there being a line. I think the problem is the line is blurred for the "Newspeak"ers.

I agree with both you and Ian. I really enjoy this site and don't want to loose the resourceful aspect for our trucks amongst all the other stuff, but that line is really blurry and not evenly applied. Also thanks for teaching me a new term. Had to look up newspeak.

Moderation is a lot easier when the line is clear. Not so much when the line is blurry.

Please tell me you've read 1984 by Orwell. That and Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury are chillingly accurate.

As far as rules and the lee way mods have to enforce them goes. It's subjective decision making for the most part. I will never be a fan of moderation but I understand why it exists. The issue lies in the subjective nature of the decision making process.

One mod may read a borderline post and think it's fine. Another may read that same post and swing the ban hammer. Favoritism also plays a role in who gets vacation time. Maybe a better way to enforce banning would be a vote. Some bans are slam dunks but for those border line cases, like I think Don's was, let the majority make that decision. Not one dude having a bad day.
