Opening day of Wisconsin gun deer.
Got her done 30 minutes into season.
9 points, scale said 180 lbs field dressed.
I didn't think it weighed that much.
Not bad for waking up 1 hour late. Climbing up a slippery frost covered ladder.
The old Remington 870 with Hornady SST slugs did there job. Hit him right behind the shoulder. It was about an 85 yard shot. Ran maybe 50 yards.
My stand is about 150 yards from the house. After I made sure he was down I went back home for a cup of coffee.

We came back to the house around 9:30, major feeding time is 6:00 tonight so we’re gonna try to be in around 2:45.
Dad slept about half the time he was in the stand this morning, I kept nudging him to wake him up when he would start snoring.

We saw these tracks on the way out, doe came through between 6 pm yesterday and when we walked in this morning.

I don’t know, maybe. First one I’ve ever seen like this.

Got in the stand about an hour ago, so far we’ve heard about 4 shots from surrounding properties, it gives a little more hope than the silence this morning.
I think dads paying me back for how loud I was hunting as a kid, he can’t sit still or be quiet.

204 yards is the longest shot over the plot, it’s pretty long for around here.

    Thanks everyone.
Shortest gun deer season I ever had. Could still get a doe, but I've got plenty of venison for the wife and myself.
Maybe I'll try for a doe with the muzzle loader.

No dice today. Had deer in my sights all day just never found one I wanted to shoot. Seasons coming to an end here pretty soon and I’m starting to feel the pressure. Maybe an elk hunt will prove successful.
