Vibration help

Each and truck will react differently. Just the nature of the beast. The have my prerunner lifted 3” with 285s and have never had any vibration what so ever. That being said it’s probably a driveline issue. Just need to know you may never get rid of it 100%. Hopefully you can remedy it, good luck.

Personally I’d bump that caster up to 3* you’ll like the way it tightens up steering. I run 4* personally.

 

Do you have a shim under the rear leaf pack?

 

I dont. Havent tried that yet

 

Remove the cb drop spacer and add 2-3 degree shim under the leaf pack, is where I’d start. Then you can lower the cb in increments as needed, to fine tune if need be. Keep us posted.

Alignment looks fine to me, but it wouldn't be the cause of your new vibrations anyway. @Muddinfun is a better interpreter of alignment sheets though. Running a higher caster is totally up to you. Not worth going back and paying again just to bump it up a degree imo. Next time around you can ask them to aim for 3.5*.
You don't necessarily have to swap wheels w/ someone. Rotate all 4 and see if it changes. Again, probably not the cause of your problem.

Likely a driveline angle. Doubtful it's anything else since it wasn't there before the lift and now it is, after install. Prior to my current setup, I had 3* shims under the leaf springs and a center support bearing drop that worked great.
Try things that are easy to play with first. Remove that CS drop. That'll take 10 minutes and you can see if the vibes get better or worse. Same w/ axle shims.

I still have some really minor vibes. The only thing left I'm going to do is the ECGS bushing. If that doesn't solve them for me, I'm going to live w/ it. Passengers don't notice the vibrations. Only me. Point is, do some logical attempts to correct the problem, but don't go insane if everything is checking out ok and they're still there.

 

Yeah the tires have already been rotated and same problem. I think I am going to take it in for one last final complete lookover and see what they say. If they don't have a suggestion I am going to at least have them get my driveline angles and see about what degree shims I should try. I'll start with that. With all the people who lift their 2nd gen Tacoma's I find it hard to believe I will never find a fix. I appreciate your input!

 

From my experience, after you lifted it 3"+ you exposed imperfections in the drive shaft. . Toyota's drive shafts are kind of cheap and when you lift them out of their original alignment they can cause vibration. Just depends on the truck, some more than others. Could be your U-joints also. You could try shimming them like someone mentioned above. At least I heard that was a fix.

Put it on a lift, put it in drive and go under the truck and watch the driveshaft. I bet it moves in an oval shape lol that’s the demon I’m fighting as well, make sure your traction control is OFF

And how! Mine looked that way and was scary. Of course it vibrates. I had to search diligently for a drive line shop that knew how to both straighten the shaft and do a precision balance.

 

I’m on my second brand new one from my local Toyota dealership. Still doing the same thing. Possibly a bad bushing within the transmission

 

So after much deliberation and research and multiple personal and professional opinions I decided to go with a custom built drive shaft from Tom Woods. This drive shaft got a lot of good reviews. I will be driving this vehicle for a long time. I just spent enough money to upgrade my entire suspension so why not upgrade the driveshaft. In the long run I think it will be the best decision. This should take care of the vibes, eliminate the carrier bearing, and these drive shafts are supposed to be a lot better quality than the factory ones as well. I will let you guys know how it works out and I appreciate all the advice.

So as I said before I went the best route for me. I will be driving this truck a long time and if I have the chance to upgrade something that will be beneficial in the long term I will. Decided to not mess with the angles and the BS carrier bearing. Went with a Tom woods one piece drive shaft. This thing is solid! Easy to swap out. 1 day lead time and 2 day shipping! All vibes are gone! Love this thing and super glad I did it.
