build one from a fully assembled upper, so no torquing the barrel and a lower with a parts kit. Aero Precision has a nice upper lower combo and putting it together from that part is basically Legos. pick a trigger, pick a grip, pick a stock. I highly suggest BCM furniture.

Both of these. Aero sells their completed uppers for almost what it would cost to buy the individual components. My last couple of builds have been almost all Aero with a few Magpul parts and an ALG trigger. They're great duty-style rifles. I have a Geissele trigger in one of my guns and while I can tell a slight difference between them and the ALG, it wouldn't be noticeable for a gun to play in the desert.

Building a lower really isn't as difficult as you would think. The big thing is to make sure the hammer spring is oriented properly. There are plenty of YouTube videos and cheap books on Amazon about the assembly process.

Aero is out of stock on just about everything. A lot of the other big name companies are getting like that too. There's good stuff to be had on the secondary market, but everything gun-related is sky high nowadays.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I'll do some reading - supposed to rain here tomorrow, so I'll hang out inside and educate myself a little.

    None... yet.
I have had my Ruger for a few years and, yeah, compared to a slick bolt action, it feels... toy-like. Overall, though, I've been pleased with the accuracy and reliability. From reading many, MANY opinions from others, it seems that S&W's offering is a better buy for about the same price.

A drop-in trigger is an easy upgrade and not too expensive but, in an effort to "learn muh gun", I opted to polish the stock trigger. I was extremely nervous but took my time and, in comparing it to my brother's Giessele drop-in, I was pleasantly surprised to find that mine is very, VERY close in feel...

    Nice!
I just got a doe last night, 120gr SST hand loads. Good shot, right in the vitals, she only made 15 yards.
No pics, were scrambling at dark to clean, get ice, grill dinner bla bla

Was going to recommend this one as well. Very good trigger at a decent price.

They have been nearly hunted to extinction though...the only place I found them online was DS Arms...bought two last month. Got a build planned for this coming holiday week...

To the original post...even my Sig 516 Patrol has a shitty trigger

Anyone here have a BCM Recce-16 MCMR or KMR? They look pretty nice, apparently well-built and of higher quality than the basic S&W/Ruger/etc.

Of course, they are sold out literally everywhere that I've looked. But as I've said, I can wait.

I don't have a Recce but I now have two 12.5" MK2 with MCMR-10. I can tell you that if you sign up for their email notifications you need to be fast. I didn't see the first alert until 45 min later and it was too late. The next notification I got it done within a couple of minutes.

    Same crap everyone else got
If you are bored with that set up and feel like a change, I'd be interested in the MCMR -10. I've been looking for a 2nd hand one for a little while now.
