From your experience, is it worth it to keep a damaged/repaired vehicle? I guess they are never the same. It's the first time this happens to me, well at least this big of a damage.

A quality repair will make the car as good as new and is nothing to worry about. I say this all the time: all cars have bodywork otherwise they’d look like sh*t. The only time I’ve seen people dump accident cars are if the repair is shoddy and it eventually developed issues(such as damaged wiring harness, etc.) if everything damaged is replaced then I see no reason why not to keep it.

Also You can claim diminished value since there is now an accident on the record.

Pretty valuable! Just get a quote from your dealer on trade in value with a clean Carfax vs a derogatory mark and you should get a check for that difference

if you have other wheels/tires to replace them you can (understand if you put plain jane wheels, and or poor condition tires, it WILL EFFECT the price the insurance company will offer you).

you cant strip the truck before you sell it. think of it this way, the insurance company is buying a whole auto, before the accident. if you take off items to make it undriveable, or items to diminish the value, so will the value of the buy back. you wouldnt sell the auto to another person and tell them, you need to source your own tires/wheels, or "make sure you bring a battery, i am taking this one".

now, if you have accessories you want to remove that isnt going to destroy the auto, or devalue the auto, and or didnt come stock on the auto, you can do that.

(30 years in the collision repair industry, 15 as an insurance adjuster).

depending on the year, mileage, damage, and if the bags were deployed, will decide if the truck is repairable or not. on diminished value... some states allow it, some do not. it is not a given. Ski

That's on top of them fixing the truck? I guess that's something they don't offer unless the policy holder asks for?

    Pardon the rant but....

Those fuckers. They trash your truck and drive off! The local PD probably won’t investigate too deeply and the wormy scumbag will get away with it. No note. I hope it eats away at them til their dying days. Sociopaths. I hope they get screwed by Penske when they returned the damaged truck..

Years ago I clipped someone’s drivers side rear view mirror. Tight ancient streets in Gloucester MA. Felt horrible, left a note apologizing with my number. The owner was very grateful... I paid, they were happy.

My karma will take a hit with this but someone had to say it...

Good luck @themex2002 . I hope if it is repaired, it is to your satisfaction.

Thank you for what you do! Be safe out there.

Sorry OP that sucks hope they find who did it and it’s paid through their insurance and not yours. Had someone hit me in a parking lot and leave and unfortunately cost me my 500$ deductible plus a rise in rates.

You should perhaps keep a dash cam in there since you park on the street, sorry about the truck. My dad got hit yesterday and driver took off. Sucks that ppl can't confront shit anymore.

The feeling absolutely sucks but like it’s been said in a few posts, find a reputable shop and have them do the work. 5 months and 4 payments into my new 4Runner I was rear ended pretty good in Norfolk by an uninsured driver. Ended up with a smashed hatch, bumper, exhaust and bent rear section of the frame. They fixed it all and sent me on my way minus the $500 deductible and I couldn’t claim diminished value (since my insurance paid for the damages)

Yes I should let karma take care of it. It's hard to understand how people don't take responsibility, they are grown ass adults, come-on!

That's really sucks, especially when you just got it. Did you keep the truck or sale it. Did you feel a difference after getting it repaired?
