Gonna throw this out there to see if anyone else faced this nonsense.

November, 2009 I bought a Vizio 42 inch LCD. Set worked great all year, and I was very happy. Exactly on year after purchase, the screen began flicking when it first turned on.

Now, it is totally black with sound when I first turn it on. It warms up for five minutes, then works fine after that.

Vizio says it will be about $300 to fix it, and it may be the backlighting.

    Anyone have a similar experience?

I had a Sony that did the same thing, screen went out. It was three months out of warranty. I opened a claim with Sony and they got back to me two weeks later and agreed to give me a new 40 in TV for shipping costs only. I was really bummed at first. But then they stood by their product. I'm sure VIZIO will do same. Call the 800 number.

It's just an LCD. I also have a smaller Vizio with no problems, and it appears to be the 42+ screens.

    Contacted Vizio with my problem:

    Dear Madam or Sir,

On November 21, 2009 I purchased a Vizio SV421XVT, serial# LSPELAK3700559 from Sam's Club. I gave it as a gift to my wife that Christmas, and was in the box until she opened it December 25, 2009. This past November, the television began flickering when first turned on. I assumed that it was a loose wire, and went through the process of replacing all of the cable to the inputs. Finally, the television became unwatchable, and I contacted Vizio customer service. They walked me through several step to try and correct it. Finally, with no other solutions, I was informed that the television would need to be serviced. I would like to know the process of getting it serviced under warranty, as this television has not been misused, and should not be malfunctioning. Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time in this matter.

I will update for anyone who cares. It's good to know how a company will provide customer service. I'm also going to let them know their responses are posted on here.

Yeah, but purchase date was November 21. No way of us proving that we didn't open it until Christmas. I the problems started before November 21, 2010, but I thought it was a loose cable, and was trying to fix it myself. I never figured that a television less than a year old would have a serious internal problem. If I did, I would have called Vizio right away.

I'm changing my screen name. It is actually a play on initials, (SK Hammer), and not scammer. But, I get your point.:D

i have a 37" VIZIO and every once in a while the picture will just go black, randomly, but with sound of whatever channel is on at the time. i turn the power off and then back on, and all is fine. the picture is just as crystal clear as ever..colors and all. mine was a display model at one time, so it was prolly running all the time..not sure if that would have something to do w/ it or not. but this has only happened maybe 3 times in the past 2 1/2 yrs.
