Adding Outside Temperature Gauge

I want to add an outside air temperature gauge. Did a little looking but nothing really I like. Looking for something accurate that runs off its own battery source rather than needing to be plugged in. Just bought a Tacoma and realized I don't have one. Loving the truck other than this minor issue

 

Look at Gentex rear view mirrors - temp and direction in the mirror. I added one to my 2015. Not the least expensive solution, but best looking (OE). Install does require running some wire, (not what you want to do), but it doesn't look like an after thought mod.

 

I think I have one in a box, never used. I ended up finding an overhead console I used instead.

 

Check out www.bobsmirrors.com he makes plug and play gentex mirror kits, if your truck has the factory mirror plug in the overhead console all you have to do is run the temp sensor wire.

 

I'm annoyed that my 2015 relies on an HD radio signal to pull the temperature from the closest town. Started working on an arduino based project that will show the current temp among with the high/low temp for the past 12 hours. Good for those mornings in camp where someone says, "how cold do you think it got last night? "



Got everything coded and wired before I left on a work trip. Have to finish up the enclosure and get it mounted when I get home.

Did this for a temporary solution. Worked well while driving for a few of years.

WOW I am VERY interested... not as much for inside my Taco but for the shell and camping in the back. Yes my wife is always asking me how cold or hot we think it was. I have a Kestrel but need to get up and out to use that any help appreciated...
