Cure for understeer?

    I know this is a high center of gravity - too heavy - too slow - not meant for it - pick up truck, but is there any way to reduce the understeer? I already added the Hellwig sway bar in the back, billies 5100 in front, 265 tires and have the track widened at all 4 corners with Spidertrax, but it still pushes out through the corners a bit too much for my liking.

    Any known remedies? Within reason of course - please don't ask me to sell and get an M3!

    Stiff coils and/or lowering and stickier tires? Since you've already added all that other stuff to your truck, I'm not sure what else you can do besides build it out like an X-Runner. Other options may be a thicker sway bar up front, taller rims and lower profile tires and changing your alignment specs to something more similar to a performance car.

    how do you even corner the truck fast enough to induce understeer? your front end pushes into corners? i mean you are turning, and the truck wants to go straight?

    kiss the brakes and transfer some weight onto the fronts..

    Reduce from tire pressure by 2 psi! But understeer is much safer than oversteer...

    Your post implies you have to be going really fast to feel understeer. In my opinion, understeer can be felt even at low speeds. I take on and off ramps regularly at 50-60 (as do most of us) and you can definitely feel the front end pushing out.

    Maybe my standards/expectations are too high, but was wondering if others have known cures.

    in most situations thats a really bad idea. a gentle lift will plant the front without tossin the back around to show ya where the guardrail is.

    yea..all my over/understeer experience is on a racetrack..in a porsche.

    having done that, i dont think the street brings anything to the table. when i say kiss the brake, i mean throttle lift, and maybe touching the brake..works awesome on an autocross course :)

    not really fast..but fast enough to tax the traction.
    i've cornered fast in the tacoma...i have never felt the front push. i design and build off/on ramps.

    scaring pylons in a asp 911 (just guessing) is a bit diff than a lifted 4wd tacoma at 60mph on a 12' wide ramp 70' in the air but i get yer point. i drove a little myself if ya couldnt tell.

    trust us, they can push like chuck norris acts. badly. from there its just a matter of control and "throttle-lift-brake-repeat" isnt it in a high CofG truck. itll go joe cocker on ya in a right hurry.

    If you autocross a Porsche, I cannot believe you don't feel the understeer in a Tacoma. Your Tacoma must have been special built from factory :) BTW, what Porsche? I'm thinking about a used 911 4s next summer.

    Without getting into too much debate on philosophy of understeer, just making a list of suggestions already thrown out to address my original question:

    Thicker sway bar - I get this one.
    Different alignment specs - anyone got any recommendations on front/back settings? How badly would this affect treadwear?
    Bigger diameter wheels - how would this help?
    Lower tire pressure - how would this help?

    remember, the rear engine porsche 911 had awesome frontal downforce and a bit too much weight in back to push much unless tryin to recover from a early apex with the throttle nailed to the floor. very tail happy much like a series 1 rx-7. they handled almost identically at times and again, i found them both a blast to drive quickly. of course shaved yokohamas, stiff suspension, big motors and a roll cage helped.
