So forgive me for not reading all 20 pages but this happened to me in my 05 tundra 4.7. They ended up having that truck for about 5 weeks, they found a nut in the chamber and had to get a new head and piston. It was still under warranty and they fixed it with no cost to me, but also didn’t extend the warranty of the truck.

I believe it now. Every toyota I’ve previously had were all J vins. Never a single issue other than design defects that spanned across the whole model line. No QC issues at all. When I was looking at Tacomas I put a preference on the 5 vins over 3 due to my bad experience with a 3 vin Nissan, but now that I’ve had my 5 vin truck for a few days I realize 5 makes no difference. The fit and finish is fine but the metal they use for bolts and what not is inferior. Rusts horribly. My 14 IS250 that’s been in NY for 6 years barely shows any rust but my 2 year old Tacoma looks like it’s been sitting at the bottom of the ocean(off lease). My cousins GX460 that’s been in NY for 4 years barley shows any rust. Heck my friends 2008 Camry shows less rust in the engine bay too! And neither of them every wash their engine bays.

If you've been here long enough, you'll see that Mexico is often the scapegoat, but the common issues happen regardless of what line made the vehicle. I'd even venture to say I've heard more issues from the Texas line, but overall it seems to not really matter.

That was either Alabama or Mississippi. I can tell because you didn’t mention any country pulled pork soaked in vinegar.

Also, Dunkin' Donuts is definitely a Northern thing. You're looking for Krispy Kreme with the Hot Now sign glowing.

I agree. The Baja plant has been producing Tacos since late '03....several years longer than Texas. They know what they're doing. My '15 is a Baja rig and has been flawless.

And for what's it worth...all the Tacoma 3.5 engines come from Alabama regardless of the final assembly plant.

My area is flush with Dunkin, but sadly no Krispy Kreme stores.

I also don’t know many vodka drinkers, around here people like a good bourbon or whiskey.

But that’s what happens when you rather thoughtlessly slam together a bunch of random bad stereotypes.

My wife's from Charlotte. If I drive past a Hot Now sign I never hear the end of it. Though I think they started closing a lot of stores, I just know that it was founded in Winston-Salem. I've got family in Boston suburbs and there's a Dunkin' on every corner it seems like.

Vodka was big in college...? :notsure: Whiskey, and especially shine, seems like a more appropriate stereotype to me as well.

We have a Krispy Creme and a DD 400 yards apart. What does that say about me?

I feel like the Kremes are mostly in the urban and suburban areas. Thank God I don’t have access to one.

The problem with Krispy Kreme is they're too damned proud of there doughnuts. $6.40 for a dozen thoroughly stale doughnuts at the grocery store? No thanks. As for the hot now sign, last time one steered me into the parking lot I couldn't get anybody to wait on me. Everyone was milling around. One person told me the cashier was a bit ill and was in the bathroom. I walked out without any doughnuts And BTW, they're no cheaper in the store. These days I buy store brand, they're not as good but less than half the price. I'd prefer KK but I fear their business model will drive them to bankruptcy eventually.

That you have a difficult choice to make each morning: great coffee or great donuts?

Yeah, for that price I'd go to a mom & pop doughnut shop and get something that's better than the original glaze and fresher. Granted I don't crave donuts that often, and homemade is the best way to go if you're up for it.
    I don't think that's the choice...

I don't frequent either much at all. But when I do, it's DD. KC donuts are just ok to me. Kinda greasy tasting. I'll eat 'em....no problem. But my preference is DD.

There is another DD, at least in the NC outer banks: Duck Donuts. And they’re amazing.

Not sure how we went from a broken valve spring to donuts, but then it is TW. So count me in.

There is a Duck donuts in Bristow, VA, where my son lives and yeah, they are great when they're hot.

In the early 2000's Krispy Kreme had it's problems; expanded too fast. There was one in Minneapolis and they had to hire off duty cops to direct traffic. A year or two later, it was closed. I'm originally from Indianapolis, and all of them closed there in the last couple years. People soon learn they are way over priced.
