So as many know that putting different leaf springs in the rear and using the poly bushings with the set that it can be very noisy. I am very particular about noises on my rig and could not stand it any longer. So I thought about a way to get freeze into the bushings with out having to spray wd40 or something else and hope that it would make the squeaking noise stop. You don’t have to do the power bushings in the rear due to it’s a simple flex joint. But I’m picky and did it anyway. Grease the world to make everything silky smooth. So this is what I ended up doing.

    Required tools and parts:
    -Zerk fittings - 1/4” 28 taper thread - x6
-Cobalt 7/32 and 15/64 bit (to get through the hardened steel of the leaf)
    -28 tap bit

First took the rear tires off. Easier access. Then I made a small hole using a smaller bit and then the bigger bit. It was difficult to tap the hardened steel but just took the time to get it right. Inserted the zerk fittings and then greased it up. The noise was gone! And it felt smoother in the rear (probably me just telling myself that).

Rear being drilled(bottom doesn’t need to be done if you don’t want too):

When I rebuilt the front and rear subframes on my e36 M3, I used marine grease during assembly. Never had a squeak for ten years I drove the car. Super sticky, damn near waterproof.

I hear ya! I did the same thing when I assembled it a year ago but living in the Pacific Northwest after the winter and all the deicer on the roads it didnt last. I just wanted to have an easy way to get grease into the bushings without having to take off the leafs.

I could be crazy but isn’t the factory joint just a rubber flex joint like the lower control arms in front?

I believe so, which is why they have super minimal movement in comparison to a BAMF shackle, Archive, or similar.

It is a simple joint with minimal movement. I went over bird with it just in case. Not much harm doing the lower as well. I’m just being picky about noise! Now there will never be any noise from the rear ever.

Hopefully you see this, but is this a fairly simple process? Seems straightforward. I’m having the same problem with those damn poly bushings. Have you had any problems with this setup yet?
