None currently trying to save this truck. Runs great. Frame rust which I am treating. Working on all fluids.
How would I find out if my Tacoma is still covered by recall?

I think its 12 years from original sale date off the lot.
Could open a account and enter the vinyl at the Toyota website.

Just call the service mgr at your local dealer, in the end he’s the one that says yes or no.

My 2008 was well out of the period, yours likely is too. I'm lucky, had the frame looked at by a guy at Toyota that i trust, said it's not too big a deal.

Wellll. Just purchased from friend in New Hampshire. Trucks been there it's whole life ( salt baby salt) 178000 miles runs like a top. Got under and pressure washed frame to remove flaking rust. main rust is where the frame has over lapping sections

I restore cars as a hobby / business. And this deal I couldn't pass up. Truck very clean, Ran compression check and 190 on all cylinders. Changed all fluids. When frame dried from pressure washing applied 1/2 gallon of wd40 to entire frame to slow any more rust.

And that's why you should never buy a vehicle from a friend. If the frame is in bad shape, the relationship with your friend may end up in the same shape because of it.

The most important place to check is up front in the box section near the catalytic converters.

WD 40 is not for corrosion protection on a vehicle frame. Search wool wax corrosion protection.

Unfortunately, as good of a product as WD-40 is, stopping corrosion that's already started is not its strong suit.

WD-40? On a frame as rust protection? This has to be a joke.

I was not looking at wd 40 as a fix just slow things down and hopefully make any fasteners a little more friendly. I wasn't to hopefully on the frame recall deal but doesn't hurt to ask.

I recently had the worst rust spots glass blasted, then painted them with rust converting frame paint. As soon as i have time, I'm going to powerwash the rest of the frame and paint it too.

The thought was to stabilize the rust and put some miles on it just to verify it's worth keeping while I research the best way to treat.

As long as your expectations aren't too high - and assuming the frame is actually safe - $500 is a good deal. Just be careful.

I don't see how WD-40 will stabilize rust, it's a lubricant, not a rust protection for something that gets mud and water on it all the time. Get the frame glass blasted and paint it with frame paint or rust converter.

I haven't located any swiss cheese on the frame so if all drives well over the next couple weeks. I will remove bed and get a better view of the rear section. The front section is where I pressure washed the pockets and as many nooks and crannies as I could find. It removed a lot loose rust and all the highway sand from up north. This isn't my every day vehicle so all good.
