I have a tiny garage to break things in. I pay less in annual rent than my buddy pays in taxes (don’t buy a house in Illinois on a lake)

Depending on the lake, that could still be pretty expensive!

He’s on the cheap lake lol it’s still like $8k/year. The other lake he looked at was $12k/year

Yeah, $8K on a lake IS cheap! Unless he's in the boonies.

Yeah, I have a small house on Lake Monona and my taxes are about 10k. My next door neighbor is probably about 20k. I can't even imagine that.

Like 20 minutes south of MLI airport. He thinks he’s in the boonies, I think he’s basically in town lol

When I had my house, I paid about $2500 and that was bad enough lol

I’m not even gonna tally up what my tundra has cost me to drive 1000 miles this year..

When I was still pretty young, I helped remodel a house on Lake Michigan in Fox Point. They were paying $50K annually (just property tax). That was more than double what I was even making at the time. I still can't imagine paying that much in taxes, especially to live on a lake that I wouldn't even want to swim in.

Those high taxes are crazy. If I was paying that much I'd expect coffee and donuts delivered every morning.

He must be out at Fire Lake. It's out of town but just barely, definitely not the boonies. If you can do a daily commute to decent size town in under an hour, you're not in the boonies, just my opinion.

True, I live in town theses days but I have friends from the DC area that think I'm in the boonies because I'm in IL but not Chicago.
