With the TRD exhaust the small amount of noise increase is all in the chrome tip (it does have a nice sound). I chopped my tip off at the spare to keep from smashing my exhaust when wheeling.

Actually I think factory is 2.25. TRD just has nicer bends, different muffler, TRD tip. Still mild steel though.

If you're like me, I have the buy it once mentality. So I'd think about where you want to be in the future performance wise. Going to go with more boost? Full headers? Tuning? Then I'd go with the full URD Spec-U setup.
Staying relatively stock with the Supercharger at normal boost? I'd go with something 2.5", stainless, muffler/resonator setup. I'd prob use URD's standard Y-pipe. Relocates the crossover, better bends, skid clearance, performance.

EDIT: In another thread someone states the factory exhaust is 2.398"

Wow thanks for doing that! Not bad; not too loud. So yours is just the cat-back with same factory width pipe?

Bad, I'm assuming you have a supercharger right? Here the thing...you probably think I'm really picky at this point. I've read a lot on the forums about how far you can go with performance upgrades with a supercharger without getting too expensive and then having issues down the road. I'm not look to take it to the track and race of the time, but I do want power. I would def want a bit more boost but not enough to were I have to start thinking about upgrading the fuel system or really put wear on the engine. Honestly, performance wise, my plan is just to get the supercharger installed (tues of next week), exhaust, maybe upgrade the air filter and just maybe add the URD 2.8 pulley and some headers. Now having said all of that, I don't want the exhaust too loud and above all else, I don't want to void the warranty. I am def going to be speaking with my dealer next week about additional upgrades when I get the supercharger installed. My gut tells me just to stick with all TRD parts just so I don't have any warranty issues, but i'll get more info on that.

No problem. That is correct. You'll just hear the SC whine at higher RPMs anyway :)

Check out the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

No, I do not have any engine mods on this Tacoma yet, however I'm not new to engine modding. I've built wild Honda N/A engines, played with Audi turbos, and hold an FAA Powerplants certification. With this truck I'm trying to keep it "bolt on" only. I'm not trying to get into internals.

It sounds like you're realistic in your power needs and want reliability.
It's the same plan I have for my truck. Since the TRD blowers are discontinued, I'm not sure it'll be an option when I'm ready, however the plan was:

    -TRD Blower
    -URD Spec-U system
    -AFE Intake
    -URD UCON-EMS
-E85 compatible fuel pump(for longevity with our 10% ethanol fuels)
    -External Fuel filter
-Amsoil 2 micron oil bypass filter system

I think now, I'll do everything on the list minus the blower and have a solid N/A setup. At that point I'll re-access my needs/wants/priorities.

For starters, I would run non-ethanol premium fuel. It made a big difference for me in fuel mileage and butt-dyno performance.

Thanks man I appreciate all of the info and you're given me some good ideas. I'm on the fence about anything URD, but I've only had my Tacoma for about 8 months so I'm still somewhat need to upgrade ideas. I'm going to have a good talk with the dealership this week when I get the s/c installed and get a firm idea of what is ok to upgrade and not void the warranty.

Aloha TW,, I know this is an older thread... But.

my exhaust is simply too loud.

It sounds amazing at start up and idle,, but when I jump on it, it gets really loud and now some droning (new muffler) in the 2500 to 4000 rpm range.

My current setup on my 4.0 V6
    1. Trd CAI
    2. DT Long Tube Headers
    3. URD “Cat-less” Y-pipe
    4. 8” SS drag racing Resonator
    5. Flowmaster HP2 (2.5in/out)
5B. had a SS Gibson muffler on it until recently (and it actually was quieter than the FM Hush Power)
    6. 8” SS drag racing Resonator as the end tip.

she flows ! But she’s just to loud now: can’t jump on it at the beach or in the hood without pissing someone off. And then at hwy speed cruising it has that drone that can drive ya nuts.

looking for any and all ideas on how to quieter her out. Add a glass pack (cherry bomb) between the Y-pipe and the Flowmaster? Ditch the Flowmaster for a Turbo muffler ?

hit me up with your thoughts and ideas

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
I would start by swapping the first resonator with a Hi Flow Magnaflow Cat. Then if you want more attenuation, look at a larger magnaflow muffler to swap out your flowmaster. Looks like you kept to 2.5" based on Muffler dimensions, that helps.
I have 3" after the URD Headers and Y-pipe. With the cat/ 22" magnaflow (could fit 24", may swap out) and a vibrant resonator I have very little drone and it is definitely louder but only screams when smashed, but the supercharger whine helps distract.
Hope you are HPtuned or similar to help your mods. Looks like a fun set up.

Right on. That’s pretty much sounds like I gotta do: add an additional muffler or high flow cat to tame the noise factor.

how is the 3” working for ya? Was thinking about going that way but was worried about not enough back pressure. I’m still NA. But my build is heading to Boost next (literally I have boxes of goodies ready except the Charger: high flow fuel pump, FJ throttle body, KK Cams, 1mm over SS valves, bee hive springs, etc etc). Hopefully some day soon.

many Mahalo’s... off to surf the web for high flow cats/mufflers

If you want high flow cats then you would be best off getting metallic substrate catalytic converters and then running catalytic converter integrated adapters for your rear oxygen sensors to eliminate the possibility of P0420 and P0430 codes.

That would give you way better flow over standard cats while at the same time eliminating a good majority of disgusting emissions choking you out from the tailpipe.

The 3" may be unnecessary for my power levels but I plan on upping the boost (2.825" to 2.6" pulley) some more once I get the 650CC injectors tuned. It probably helps in the high RPMs right now though. I like the in cab volume. I need to have the Misses do some drive by passes so I can hear it on the outside.

    Cool cool, and Mahalo’s

still looking for the exhaust options... gotta tame her down.
She’s too loud to go fast on our little island. Hoping to order some solutions by the end of the week.

and of course, still saving up for Boost. Every time I get close, I end up modding or replacing something on my Long Travel taco. But think I’m pretty much done now...

so the next question is gonna be whether I go with the tried and true TRD/Magnuson SC or the side mounted Pro-Charger (yes, wrong thread lol).

but thank you to all our TW nation,, you guys are a bottomless pit of great advice, how to, what not to do, and even good laughs

    much Aloha

    Aloha and Up-Date from Kauai

first off thank you to one and all who jumped in and helped out so quickly, many Mahalo’s.

Out of pure frustration with my new Flow-master HP2 (so much for Hush Power )... I switched back to my S.S. Gibson muffler and am happy as a clam again

still have plenty of flow and zoom zoom, but that perfect amount of grumble with out the drone nor insane scream on the gas

classic example of if it ain’t broken don’t fix it

    shoots
