XL racers will match the distance of your bar as they’re the same led and reflectors as the center 2 of each section. You’ll just get more light out there being more of the same leds and being mounted higher.

XLs are truly the way to go for the A pillar. They don’t look too big especially on your sprinter.

It's got the same output specs as the Squadrons. Do you know if the same wiring harness is compatible? I know the XL80 uses a different one, but it draws a lot more amps.

My other main issue is space. With my mounting options I can fit the 20" bar and 2 smaller lights one on each side (currently DD SAE fogs). I have the Sqaudrons on the A Pillar and love the wide spread for slow to moderate speed and local road driving. I'd have to lose the Fogs and move the Squadrons down to fit the Racers up top. I've never had fogs yet so I was excited to see what if anything they do in snowy conditions. I'll need to weigh the pros and cons of actual use between either set up and see just what the fogs do in the real world for me, not just what others say they did for them. Those of course are the only street legal lights I can use anytime :)

Looking up the spec sheet on BDs site says they use a 3 pin weather pack just like the onx6/XL80. The 3rd green wire allows you to dim the lights.

I didn’t use this feature in any of my lights so I just plugged that hole to seal it off. All you would have to do is remove the 2 pin plug you have and wire a 3 pin in their place. Or convert the light to 2 pin plugs but then you’d have an exposed wire to deal with.

Actually you wouldn’t even have to do any actual wiring, release the barrels from your current 2 pin plugs using the weather pack tool, a small screwdriver or coffee straw and insert them into the appropriate spots on your new 3 pin plugs. Get a couple dummy inserts to put in the un-used holes and you’re good to go.

Is there an example like this for any of the racer style lights?

That's awesome, thanks - do they have any of these for the ONX6+ Bars? I'd like to see some of them compared if you guys have them, especially the 20" bar.

I have a few more whipped up. Here is a 20" and 30" OnX6 Comparison. These images are a few years old. The current OnX6 series uses a much different LED array. Solely providing this as an example of the intensity difference you will see in a 20" vs 30" .

Is there still a code for TW for the lights to save a few bucks?

I've bought through BD directly with the code, and also via memario1214. You can't go wrong with either, but memario1214 hooked me up, was super responsive, and super helpful. I'd highly recommend you hit him up and give him your business. I'm all for trying to help out the smaller companies when I can.

Do the sae series lights have “sae” on the lenses?
Va state inspections are usually notorious for giving people a hard time.

So I got the XL racers. Dang, they are big on the A Pillar. I'm having some issues with vibration having them up on the hood hinge mount. Not crazy bad, but enough to be annoying. That said, they are finally getting the light where I want it, out there at the far end for highway speed driving. Seems to me that the 20inch bar with the driving combo is quite bright in the midrange and that does make the far end seem less bright. The XL Racers balance that out some. I find the racers alone throw a good bit of light over the course of their throw, but not too much to the sides. I almost think 4 racers, or maybe 2 XL80's in spot mode with 2XL racers would have been ideal. Then the squadron Pro for ditch duty. That would probably eliminate that bit of the near/mid range hotspot I get from the bar. Maybe I just need to aim my bar a little higher?

Only way I can manage the XL configuration would be a dedicated roof or bumper mount bar so that's gonna have to wait. Too bad the XL racers weren't a little bit smaller. I'll put some mileage on this setup and see where it goes.

Baja designs says the XL Racer throws light 40% farther than the XL Pro...but how does it compare to an XL80, say in spot and/or Driving combo mode? I know the XL80 is twice the power of XL Racer.

XL80s have the the same led chips and pattern that the outer 4 chips on each 10” section of your onx6 have, so block the 2 middle racer chips on each 10” section and your 20” bar basically gives you 2 XL80s in combo pattern that’s laid out horizontally.

While I haven’t experienced any of the other XL series I personally have no issues “out driving” my pillar mounted spot pattern XL80s at 75+ mph. I also don’t feel I lose perceived distance with all the foreground light my 40” onx6 throws, I can see way further then I ever need to with it all lit up.

My eyes are pretty sensitive to light at night I always keep my dash lights on the lowest setting so maybe I just see things different from most people.

Are you not wanting any of the midrange light the bar throws? You could try spot pattern lenses on the bar, my XL80s in spot throw plenty of light to the sides and light up the entire roadway so I’d suspect the same would be accomplished on the onx6.

That's an idea. I also have the amber lenses so I'm gonna try those. This is all shades of grey and tweaking. I like the light and now I'm just trying to balance it all out. I'm like you where I always turn my dash lights down or even off. Makes a huge difference for me at night without the up close light visible on the dash.

I need to mess with aiming the bar. I think I had it a tad low, thus the really bright area near and midfield. Not uncommon up here to be driving unplowed roads. People drive and it builds up in the center of the lane. The bar light just totally grabs and lights up the snow berm in the center of the lane and it's really bright right there. Honestly I just need more time with these in different conditions and some tweaking of the aim. Also that would of course be the advantage of having the light mounted up higher. This is a 4x4 Sprinter with a 4" lift though so although it's on the bumper, it's not exactly "low" to the ground.

That said, the racer seems to throw more even light over it's distance. Maybe it's just the lack of brightness up front. Also my racers are on the A Pillar. Though in the images above you can see there is more of a "bright spot" with the XL pro before 100ft. This is similar to what the bar gives me. My observation (at moderate and low speeds so far) is my eye is drawn to the brighter area up close. It is what it is, I'm just throwing around my observations and thoughts.
