Also remember even Linus is compiling Linux code now on an AMD system. I'd ditch Intel for this gen or wait for their new stuff next year.

There have been tons of them coming in up here. This week almost every day Memory Express has had some stock. Have you tried, or are you near, a Microcenter? I'd almost guarantee they're seeing regular restocking now and the 3090 is so pricey most people/scalpers are avoiding it.

Also I can't believe how Newegg basically supports scalping now. Not only have they done nothing to help alleviate scalpers but they allow their third parties to ask scalper prices on their website. Hell, they promote them to get their cut. What a bitch ass company. Not that I bought much from them but now they'll see a total of 0% of my business.

my up Best Buy had the best bot protection I saw. Was pretty disappointed to see Newegg letting that fly. Especially during a pandemic/supply shortage/ when people are stuck at home and short on money.

If you read into the Newegg corperate story, and it's hard to find because they do try to keep it quite, they've done a lot of shady things in the past.

One major one was targeted deals and advertising against any other company their size or smaller. Basically they'd find out what companies were going to run what ads and what prices, and then buy ad space on those same sources with a slight price undercut. If you're wondering why Newegg is really the only online retailer left in that market, that's why. They targeted any potential competitors to a level rarely seen. There's tons of former employees who have said they were asked to steal competitors information as well. There was a lawsuit over it though it failed since said employees did not have any evidence, they obviously weren't allowed to keep anything when they left.

They also have pulled price matching back in the weirdest way. They do price match, sometimes, and only on items they know they have the highest margin. They actually have software and staff constantly checking this. They either chose to have an item price matched because they know they can afford it, or they remove it from their price match list if they think their size will compensate for any loss in sales. It's the strangest policy out there.

Last one that bugs me is related to the post I made above. They've been caught many times selling substandard merchandise at full price without apology. The first one I remember was a bunch of Intel processors they sold that were actually counterfeit. When they were caught they tried to act like they were demo units or some engineering samples but they were straight up counterfeit. They blamed a supplier, even though at the time Newegg had a direct supply relationship with Intel. Just recently they sold 30 series cards without retail packaging. They basically convinced EVGA to give them cards in system builder packaging, which is just a raw box, on the premise that the cards would go into Newegg prebuilds. Instead Newegg sold them at MSRP and a pile of them arrived damaged due to the lack of packaging. They never apologized, just told people to contract EVGA for replacement. If you believe some stories online, there is a good chance EVGA will move to direct sales and Amazon store sales only at some point because of Newegg.

Used to have a local Comp USA but they went under nearest Microcenter is a 7 hour drive.

Waiting for Bestbuy to stock the 3090 Founders as they say they are not selling them in stores, online only and everywhere else is scalping.

Gosh that's such a good looking card.

I would get a 3090 Classified as I *LOVE* the Classified aesthetic unfortunately K|NGP|N killed the Classified cards. :pout:

K|NGP|N just isn't even half as cool as CLASSIFIED in my honest opinion, and the appearance breaks my Umbrella theme.

I really would have loved if the CompUSA/Tigerdirect stores in Tampa would have gotten turned into a Microcenter.

Yep this is for a new build, the one behind it has a 2070 and that tower goes to my kid I was told. It's been a great card, i've been really happy with the 2070 overall.

wow crazy. I didn’t know all that.

I was just disappointed with the scalpers easy access then they got to sell them on Newegg and Amazon after. Annoying and fuck those humans that did that.

The kingpin cards are kind of a joke. You'd have to have money coming out of your ears to buy one and run it stock. Alone they're nothing really special, just another AIO card with a custom OC that's still within the limits nVidia sets.

They're special because of their bin. They're figuratively begging to be custom water blocked, custom BIOS flashed, and fed unreasonably large amounts of voltage. They are the best GPUs EVGA receives, or at least the ones that test the best on their bench. That's also why the Kingpin cards take a while to show up after launch. While they feed the rich kids a bunch of BS about Kingpin custom overclocking and designing the card the truth is they don't launch them until they have figured out how to bin off the top 5% of what nVidia sends them for their special Kingpin cards.

Another reason I don't buy Kingpins. Hell I probably don't even need a 3080, let alone a 3090 but I want to get one card that will last me at like 5 years. My 1080 Classified, last of the Classified line (which fortunately checked a little kid fantasy box so I'm happy) has been going for 4 years now? But with getting into VR the VRAM is really appealing.

Was going to hold off for the 20GB ver of the 3080 but that sku got trashed.

Sort of. The new rumor is a 3080Ti is coming. It'll be a 3090 (as in the full amount of CUDA cores), with 20 GB of memory, but the bandwidth of the memory bus will be cut back to be the same as the 3080. Rumor is $999 price point and New Year launch.

It makes a lot of sense. The 3090 is going to catch up in stock quick, like I said lots of brick and mortar places are seeing them regularly stick around for a day or two now, so I would guess we will see the 3080Ti just to make sure nVidia can milk the most cash out of that premium market without having a pile of 3090s on the shelves.

I'm on the fence with nVidia marketing. It seems their new tactic is SKU overload. Basically they figure if they have 8-10 cards on the shelves at the same time a company like AMD, with 4-5, will have less shelf and website space to operate. If I was a retailer I'd be pissed about that. Having too many SKUs really makes inventory management a pain for the resellers.

I just plugged my Linux SSD into this computer, and tried again. I did make a little progress. I can now run one monitor through my video card, but it doesn't have the correct drivers.

    upload_2020-11-22_14-47-28.jpg

I can only boot Linus using "generic (recovery mode)"

    upload_2020-11-22_14-48-21.jpg

I've tried restarting once it's up and running, but all I get is a blank screen.

    upload_2020-11-22_14-49-36.jpg

My system is up to date:

    upload_2020-11-22_14-50-26.jpg

And it's telling me I don't need any additional drivers:

    upload_2020-11-22_14-50-56.jpg

Lets just say my initial Linux experience hasn't been the best...lol

I dont mess up Linux to much these days so double check things (and most of my linux was with ubuntu)

But the RX590 had patches that were included in Linux kernel 4.20. Mint 19.1 looks to be using Linux kernel 4.15 still. So you would either need to find those patches or try a different linux distro that has a higher linux kernel. Quick test would be to try it on ubuntu...the latest version is a linux kernal 5.X
