    I just looked it up.

There is no tax benefit. CA sales tax are on the retail price of the vehicle and the trade-in value is not considered.

    Dumb law.

The manual transmission is hurting the value for a trade in. You have a limited audience that will be looking for one. Good luck with getting it sold.

    I hear you.

I don't really have the patience to wait a month or so to sell the vehicle.

why do you say the GX is better off road?
just asking, I have had both and had both over many of the same trails here in CO.
just sold mine GX with 210K miles for $13.5
The GX is a 4Runner with a different body.

while i agree manual can hurt trading on the private party side it could probably be worth more for the buyer looking for a used manual

I think some of the problem people are having thinking their truck is worth more than it really is, is that they overpaid for it in the first place. 34k for a mt? Does it have tech and premium packages? That’s what I paid for my auto OR without tech and premium

And someone mentioned paying 31k for a 2016 SR  Thats insane

If I understand the process, if you trade in then the trade in amount is not taxable on the sale. So in MD that is 6%. I might be wrong.

Used mid-size trucks are down in value in November. Crazy trade-in values are gone.

Everyone on here talks about wanting a manual but the reality is most don't. Considering how few people even know how to drive them, the manual will sit on the lot a lot longer than an auto.

I just traded my 2020 DCLB trd off-road in at a local dealer and got what I thought was more than fair trade in value. 2020 DCLB trd off-road with 10k miles no extra packages from factory so a “base” model off road with the only add on being a Tyger roll up tonneau cover which was $200. They gave me $35,600 trade in. Still had the window sticker for what I paid which was $37,375. I looked at 3 dealers that had trucks I liked and got starting offers between 32k-34k for trade in.

The only states that DO NOT currently give a tax credit as of February 2019 are:

    California
    District of Columbia
    Hawaii
    Kentucky
    Michigan
    Montana
    Virginia

Not really. Dude over paid on a 3 year old vehicle to start with. That's going to throw the whole depreciation curve off.

Mods add no value. If anything they subtract value.

this^^ unless you go private, having mods will make it harder to sell. Even Carvana subtracted for having them, when I removed them, the trade in always goes up.

One of the few times mods has not hurt and might have helped my trade in was my FJCruiser. The only mods were a 3" lift with 33s, which made the Trail Teams look right. Got top dollar on my trade and it never hit the used lot. Someone at the dealership snapped it up. I agree that heavy mods can detract from a trade in. Private sales are the way to go then.

This does also depend on the area and dealership. I had a hard time getting my 2016 TRD MT and 2020 TRD MT. Dealer said they fly off the lot like nothing. They will get used Taco's with 300,000kms on it and MT and its gone the next day.
