No, I'm pretty sure that I did provide some examples, but you seemed to think they weren't credible. And by they way, the carbon build up associated with DI is not unique to the ecoboost family of engines (at least the early variants). Plenty of other DI engines have similar issues...its an issue inherent to the design of DI rather than a particular brand/make of engine.

That you keep arguing with me on this tells me that you have very little understanding of what's been going on in the auto industry.

    Here is one example: https://www.f150forum.com/f70/ecoboost-intake-valve-build-up-fix-264104/

Here is a car & driver article talking about DI and PI in general: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a...-engines-have-both-port-and-direct-injection/

Resale should be part of the equation when purchasing a vehicle but not the main point. You also have to be happy with what you're driving and that for me is way more important than resale value!

With that said a little history here. I've owned vehicles from 70's muscle cars, vettes to trucks and have never kept any of them all that long. I think the longest was 5 years so longevity isn't all that high on my list besides if I thought I was going to actually keep one longer I would just get an extended warrantee.

I bought my Tacoma in 2016 when the first came out, actually ordered it in Aug of 2015. Had the absolute worst dealer experience ever buying it,then came the infamous tranny issues which Toyota didn't want to recognize along with it coming in 1 1/2 qts low from the factory. You'd go from R to D and there was a good 4-5 sec delay before engagement and then it would have a weird surge/buck around 35-38 mph. Even after the TSB's it never ran right, engine is way underpowered, terrible seating position and ac never was cold and yes I brought it in many times and got the same generic response that "everything's up to specs" just to list a few. Maybe I got a lemon which with anything that's mass produced is common but it was the way Toyota corporate handled everything that turned me off for good with them. They could care less and I got the impression that hey "if you don't like to bad" ! So when the Ranger came out and I test drove it several times it was a no brainer (for me anyways) to switch.

Now I'm not here to piss on Toyota but just because some of you are happy with yours, you need to realize not everyone is/was. Maybe the OP is trolling but I don't have time to check his posting history nor do I care. I'm not a "fanboy" of any product and even when I like one I'll still agree if somethings wrong or not to my liking with it.

I've read through most of this ridiculous thread and really some of the responses are plain dumb like there's no MT or 6' bed or my favorite one liners are Ford Sucks. Yeah that brings a lot to the table! Buy an F150...well most don't want a full size truck and besides why didn't you buy a Tundra instead of the Tacoma?? The ones bashing the turbo you do realize that rumors are that Toyota is coming out with a 2.4 turbo with their 4 gen? Sure they're just rumors now but what on earth will you do if it's actually true?

You can bash all you want and post your childish memes (ok some are pretty funny) but for someone who's owned a lot of vehicles IMHO the Tacoma was the worst vehicle I've ever owned. The Ranger is to new to tell but so far I'm loving it ten folds over my Tacoma. If there are issues I'll deal with them if they arrive but I'm sure it can't be any worse what Toyota corporate put me through. Maybe if I had owned a gen 1/2 I would have a different opinion but this 3rd get left me with a real bad impression. I'm glad most of you are happy with your decisions but a little competition is good for the industry, makes all manufacturers up their game.

Thankfully actual ownership of a Tacoma is not a prerequisite for membership here. The inner family battles between the 3 different generations is incredibly amusing by itself alone, now add the new Ranger which manages to stay on the first page of threads pretty much daily and hoowee entertaining is an understatement

I had a similar experience with the 2016. sold my second gen for a 3rd gen. I have issues from the get-go. A howling issue between 35 and 45 miles an hour drove me crazy. Finally found the source of the problem was the Lower control arm had holes in it and the wind was going past those holes and creating a whistle. So I taped them up in the problem went away. I should have test driven the Tacoma a lot longer time.

I never cared for the weak engine and constantly shifting transmission. I discovered leaking around my rear and that's when I decided to trade it. Other than going back to a 2nd gen I decided to have a look at the domestics again. Drove the Colorado but since I already have a Chevy product (08 vette) I decided to pass on Chevy products. The Corvette notwithstanding.

When I heard the R we have an invitation by my step-sister to go to the mountains of North Carolinaanger was coming out I decided to wait for it. I had a couple of Rangers back in the day and they were great trucks but I always ended up with a Tacoma. I placed far too much confidence in Toyota when I bought the Tacoma. I understand they're selling so many of them that they don't have to worry about it being a less than product.

I decided to test drive the Ranger after 5 minutes I made my offer and I'm very happy with the result. All that said, I still have a soft spot for the Tacoma. But I won't blindly buy a Toyota again. I'll have another look at Toyota Tacoma if they come out with a twin-turbo V6 or at least a better drivetrain in they have now.

One of the things I like about the ranger that no one seems to like is a High bed sides. I'm able to carry more in the bed and leave the tonneau cover closed.. I can reach in the side and get anything I need. The other thing that sold me outside of the obvious drivetrain performance. Is the sync 3 system. I hope the next version of Entune is better than a sync 3 but I don't see how it can be.

If the second gen had all the nanny features modern check and features I might have considered going back to one. But that whole Tacoma body long in the tooth. I will be curious about the redesigned. Both redesigned Ranger and the new Tacoma should be out at the same time.

I was a Tacoma fanboy but was cured by the third gen.

Fool me once and all that jazz. In any case, this is still a great forum with many knowledgeable people.

I’m not sure yet what to make of the Tacoma. The cruise control acts weird. I had to cut back on the use because it would rev the engine up to 5000rpms sometimes as if it was desperately trying to get back to the previous speed. I would like to see some AI incorporated into cruise control which would mimic the way a human more deliberately gets the car back up to speed. Also the radar thing is a big waste of money; would’ve far preferred CarPlay.

I had the same howling noise too and don't get me started on Entune! As disappointed as I was with the truck I was even more disappointed in the way Toyota handled everything. That right there solidified that I will never own another one of their products again. To bad because I know a lot of friends who had the 2nd gen and still love them but I think they really dropped the ball with the 3rd gen engine/tranny. Who cares if it'll go 300-400K if the drivetrain sucks. But hey it has a MT a 6' bed option and a short bed height. I can see where some will want to buy a new truck and keep it for many years and with Toyota's track record they have a better chance doing so.

I too love the deeper bed on the Ranger. Being a contractor I can fit more stuff under my cover. As far as reaching in from the sides go I never do this anyway, best way to scratch your sides up but hey if that's a deal breaker for some than so be it. The interior and technology is light years ahead in the Ranger and everyone who's seen both of my trucks has commented on this too. Will it go 300-400K,probably not and I doubt mine will even see 50K before I'm ready to trade it in in a few years, especially if the Raptor version comes out.

Again I'm not here to piss on anyones parade just that there's a whole lot of misinformation being thrown around about the Ranger and having owned both (like you) I think I can give my honest feedback.

That’s the one thing the Ranger has going for it that the rest of the midsize class sucks at. Tacoma has gear hunting and The GM twins have had a law suit filed on their transmission. Regardless some of these lifetime power train warranties should solve that issue.

I have an 18' that did the tsb. I don't gear hunt, and it drives nice everywhere I go. I had a 2015 f-150 and the doors wouldn't close. You can check the forums, it now affects the super duties as well as regular ones. NO FIX in 4 years, for doors not closing. Ford can't close a fucking door, but you'll ditch the taco because you think it should shift like a race car.

Have at it, and enjoy the winter wind.

Good choice. I have a 2018 4Runner in my garage along with my Tacoma. I like the Tacoma for having a pickup bed when one needs a pickup bed, but have to say that I like 4Runner's automatic transmission better over the Tacoma's.

Agreed......10 speed transmission and a turbo 4 means this thing wont be worth fixing when it blows after 100k.
