Recommendations on hardcovers that allow racks? Kinda in a rush to buy one for an upcoming trip but don’t want to shoot myself in the foot if I plan to put racks or something similar. Thanks for the help!

So many options. What’s your budget? You really only have 4 options.
Soft roll, hard roll, tri-folds and Re-trax.
There’s brackets now that pretty much allow for any bed rack to be installed. I had the Revolver X2 for my first hard roll tonneau cover, not the best when it freezes up and you have ice in the track. For my next build I’m going with the Re-trax XR Pro, way more options for bed racks but you pay a premium $$ for that set up.

I just did a lot of research on tonneau covers a couple weeks ago, and only wanted a hard cover that would protect my gear and was lockable and secure as a tonneau could be. If that’s what you want then here’s some info (I already had the links saved, so figured I would give you my advice). I went with the Rugged HC3 Premium Hard Tri-Fold:
    https://ruggedliner.com/HC3-hard-folding/2021/toyota/tacoma

For the best bang for the buck, I narrowed it down to that or the Rugged E-Series which is $100 less... but from reading product reviews and people’s experiences here on TW, it seems the E-Series has shorter bolts in the front, which makes for more effort to take the cover on and off as fast and easy as the HC3. The HC3 also has built-in LED lights and tethers to keep it from flying off in case the bolts or mounts fail. So I went with the HC3 for $100 more. Both work with the rail system in our beds.

If you like the E-Series, save yourself $100 more and get the Rough Country Hard Tri-Fold:
    https://www.roughcountry.com/toyota-hard-tri-fold-bed-cover-45716501.html
From what everyone says, it’s the exact cover just re-badged and less money (and has the shorter bolt issue also, which isn't a huge deal but I personally wanted the ability to take the cover on/off often and as quick as possible). Even though, I still almost went with the Rough Country for the price alone, but I couldn’t find any in stock when I was ready to pull the trigger, so I went with the HC3. I’m glad I did. I like the lights and the tethers.

Not sure what kind of racks you are thinking about...but, have you considered or looked at the Diamondback Tonneau Covers? They are solid and literally like bank vaults.

What is your budget? If you do plan on getting a rack what will it be holding?

I have a Retrax and I love it. I also have a buddy who got a Diamondback cover along with some Billie Bars and he loves it.

Your budget and type of gear you wanna cast would be important to include. I have a retrax with the upTOP truss. Love the setup.
