To be correct the axial force on the bolt is a function of the torque applied to the bolt.
So although it might look "stressed" the bolt itself is seeing the same axlial stress in this than a bolted joint without a gap between the mating surfaces.

It looks weak as hell though, yes. I wonder if its a case of , if it works it works, since it looks very cheap to make.

You don’t see additional stress from having a gap there. Maybe some bending moment but doesn’t stress the bolt anymore having gap no gap.

Oh. You’re smart and stuff! I’m not engineer but it definitely seems easy to beef that clamp system up a little, for peace of mind

Hmmm this is interesting. my buddy @Toynado noted that tradesman started offering a 3rd brake light with a camera. I wonder if we get one they would install we could deal with the wiring. I was thinking about this the other day. I guess would depend if you can splice into the stock wiring.

I just did a quick lookup to see what was out there. not sure this is the best option or not. Also, the stock rearview camera is crap anyway.

There's a couple of options, like this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N29NAXL/

I helped a friend install this one on his Tradesman tall shell and it's a good camera with infrared LEDs so the night time picture is pretty good as well.

yah should be easy enough to add a camera was thinking would be slick to have an integrated 3rd brake light/camera setup

Yeah the actual body looks weak as shit I agree. I don’t like it either. I’m wondering if “it works” and they don’t think it needs to be beefed up.
I was just picking on the specific screw being stretched or not.

I’ve spent the last 2 months working on a 4-40 screw analyzing the torque and behavior of the joint during temp cycle. So usually not too brilliant but sometimes forced to be.
Funny, was just thinking of adding a rear camera to the SP this weekend. Would be great if we can swap out the SP light with one that has a camera.

yah that's what I was thinking then @Toynado suggested it. Really got me thinking. See what options are out there. I assume it will have a hole for a power cable which would be good for the camera too. I have a mount to relocate my stock one but never got around to doing it. Its a shit camera so getting a higher end one with night vision or what not would be prime.

Gotta admit, given the engineering skill that's gone into the X1, i'm surprised those are the clamps they are going with.

Looks like hanging a picasso with some twine.

I'm probably looking at late spring for mine, so I'm counting on you winter beta testers to provide enough feedback by then!!!

Nice! I replied to one of their IG posts yesterday asking when we'll see some long beds. They replied "sooooon, promise. Bunch of long beds going out over the next few weeks" They weren't kidding by soon :)

Nice, if anyone needs to update the form.
We shall see. Honestly the mounts that came on my Leer were not what i expected but have not had any issues. Not a huge deal but they do use a bolt and nut where most just use a t slot and I have had some come loose but not come out.
