Just asking the question is the money spent worth the outcome on this one? I don't have e lockers so just asking? I do have 4 X 4 2nd gen.

    This.

That appears to be someone that converted their sport axles to O/R axles. I have an O/R, I just want an LSD, or at least a locker I can engage whenever I want...

It just shouldn't be this complicated. Makes me miss my 05 and the simplicity of the grey wire mod.

Depends on how much you hate "one tire fires" I guess. Way more fun being the occasional hooligan with a rear end that is capable of spinning both tires at once in any drive mode other than 4lo... Literally my only complaint with this truck. I'm thinking about turbo's because I want them (not need), but no truck should tell you how you are able to use the drive modes. Modern nannies are the worst.

ARB has an 8.75 air locker. RD232. Far as I know that's the only non-OEM diff for these now.

I'm still working on my locker mod it just hit the back burner. Very simple standalone bypass anytime control just as if you installed it aftermarket.

    Yes
Exact same if you want to manually control the OR elocker... if it is installed in a OR or Sport...

This is just A way you can manually control it, if you want

""one tire fires":rofl:I get it just sounds expensive. Guess it comes down to how much off roading you do and the payback. Or on roading!

Here's some talk about anytiming the locker. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-2lo-fj-tc-swap-dash-light-fix-feeler.684212/

One of my ideas for a swap is the 9.5" rear axle from a Tundra with the V6/small V8 engine. The later 9.5" diffs take the same 1.37" 32 spline axle shafts as the Taco. Narrow the Tundra housing, cut the ends from the stock housing, weld on, and all the bearing and ABS issues are dealt with. Move the spring and shock perches. There are factory clutch pack LSD AND Torsen diffs available for it. The flange yoke on the 9.5 takes a 1350 U joint, cheap insurance for your burn outs.

Fug it.. Rip out the nice advanced electronic controlled brake booster for a good ol vacuum control, add front & rear 1 ton axle swap.

My 2nd gen is a supercharged OffRoad model that came with the 8.0" eLocker. It was replaced with a third member from a Sport model (8.4") and a Detroit Trutrac was installed. Several benefits to this is that I still have TRAC and A-TRAC from the OffRoad model that pretty much simulates having front and rear lockers. When I'm driving around normally, I don't have issues of one wheel burnouts or spinning with the Trutrac diff.
No special gear oil is needed as this isn't a clutch-based LSD, nor should it wear out prematurely from extra power.

Your other options include fully replacing the entire rear axle like others have mentioned, but that's going to be EXPENSIVE compared to having the current e-Locker diff removed (and sell it to someone without an OffRoad model) and having a Truetrac installed.

An 8.4 3rd member does not interchange with an 8" 3rd member. Even more irrelevant since the diff under question from OP is the 8.75.

The whole point of the thread is there is no lsd option for the 8.75 diff.

I understand that the 2nd gen diff is different size, but my point was that IF there is a Truetrac (geared/mechanical, non-clutch LSD) for the 3rd gen, you should still be able to take advantage of the traction control, crawl control, and whatever else the 3rd gen has.

That's a 5K project really easily, and you'll loose your ABS unless you get an axle made that uses the taco outer bearings.

im confused why adding a switch to toggle 12V to the stock locker actuator is difficult?

I'm in the same boat. Can tap in to existing wiring, run it like you would a set of lights with a relay.

Because a real LSD is a very different animal from a locker?

Although I suppose your could use a pedal commander (or similar) to actuate the eLocker when it detects the gas pedal at a certain position. Not sure if the eLocker can switch that fast, or if it would survive being used like that though.

3rd Gen OR/Pro locker NEVER sees 14v from the ECU. ECU provides much less voltage.

You put 14V into it and you will be putting about double the wattage into it compared to Toyota. Will it be fine with 14V? maybe... (I have no data points that it will be OK, and no data points that it won't, at this time).
