Following the thread and adding to it in hopes the issue gets escalated and resolved. I have a 2016 White and it started peeling inside the top fenders adjacent to the hood. Both sides. It was only visible before when you open the hood a few months ago, but now it is visible when the hood is closed. I called corporate and filed a complaint, but they told me it wasn't covered. This is very unfortunate and frustrating as I'm a HUGE Taco fan. Hopefully, there will be a recall soon.

I've had this issue under my hood and front fenders on my 2017. Wonder if the dealer would even give me the time of day, being outside of warranty.

The factory rep told me it was a temporary defect in the Mexican plant but USAJapan ones peel too. They’ve been peeling for years across all model lines.

If you have a super white - keep an eye on it and make sure to complain before the 36k warranty is out.

Obviously Toyota knows they have a problem, the only thing they don’t have is enough Tacoma owners having this documented to possibly get the Tacoma on this list. It will definitely take time considering not enough have been documented but with what their recall for paint shows right now is allowing the ones that have got it fixed to get reimbursed if your vehicle is on that list. So you can take a chance and pay for it and hopefully save the bill for the future. I have a 19 and worry that a few years it will happen to me as well. Only time will tell.

I am just starting the process of reporting this to my dealership (South Coast Toyota, Costa Mesa Ca) and have been told two completely different stories by the SAME service manager on two occurrences. I brought in my truck for the 45k truck and showed them the paint that had flaked off at the driver side upper fender/hood gap and the guy knew all about it and even looked at the rear door pillars where most have the paint damage. He said it was super common and that he would submit a report to Toyota. I follow up a month later and he acts like he had never heard of a Tacoma with this issue, and that Toyota most likely will not address it but he promised to escalate it to his service manager. This is definitely frustrating as I pretty much know the outcome is going to be them telling me I am SOL. Any advise on what I should do if/when they deny me? Salt in the wound-- the paint is beginning to bubble on the driver side rear door pillar.

Persist with your complaints. Make your complaints in writing. Paint peel on such a new vehicle is unacceptable. There are other threads on Super White paint issue, so you are not alone.

I've call Toyota Experience Center and complained. Went up a couple levels and waiting on a callback to take it higher. 800-331-4331
Complete bs they didnt ask for pictures or anything. Just said wait and maybe my vehicle will be covered in the future.
While several other models same year and same paint are covered! Make some Noise!!!!

I have also done the same, called Toyota Experience Center. 2015 Tacoma summit white paint is peeling on my passenger doors and is progressively getting worse. I noticed it tends to peel more during the colder months. My complaint was dead in the water. I went up as high as they would allow me. The person I spoke to last was like talking to a brick wall. Very disappointed.

Follow them on Twitter and complain. Complain through Facebook. Trying to think if there is any other ways to poke them.

Hi, I am a new member due to the fact that I want/need to get involved and updated on the flaking paint issue. My paint is "flaking" off my "Super White" 2016 Tacoma, TRD Sport, Dble Cab, long bed 4x4.

I first noticed the back of the driver side, rear seat window flaking exactly like N Minus 1 and Miamitacoguy 83. Within two weeks it went from 1 inch in length to 5 inches in length. The local Toyota dealer where I had purchased the truck (my 3rd Tacoma, my 2010 and 2013 TRD Sports were both black) They measured the paint, got in touch with their District Mgr. and paid to have the door painted (shop of my choice) under what they called their "Goodwill gesture". Four weeks later, while hand washing/waxing the truck I noticed the center of the roof against the top of the windshield flaking, and the tips of both front fenders where they meet the windshield. I contacted the local dealer, went back to the body shop, got an estimate, sent it to the local dealership. Toyota's district mgr denied the claim stating they "already covered the door under their Goodwill gesture, too bad I didn't notice it earlier".

I called the Toyota Extended Warranty division (due to the flaking paint) she told me the Tacoma is not included in the recall because they have not received very many complaints. She said IF they receive enough complaints, they could/would add the Tacoma to Warranty Extension program like the Camry's and Corolla's so keep watch. She also said their paint warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles. That should be for a standard paint job. Nnot a sub-standard paint job on a $38,000 vehicle with known "flaking" issues. For $38,000 I would expect a standard paint job, not to be flaking off after 42,000 miles. etc. She aso told me the district mgr has the final word and he denied the claim. She was worthless, basically, a yes, sorry ...person they put in place to blow you off.

I saw where they are covering flaking paint on vehicles as far back as 2008.
The (very reputable) paint shop is telling me Toyota needs to cover this problem, you stay on top of them, and keep on going. He said he read in one of his monthly magazines where Toyota had actually admitted they skipped the clear coat (?) He also said Toyota is responsible and you will eventually see the paint on your entire truck flake off.
I am not sure where to go from here, I guess Toyota Corporate? Any ideas? Suggestions?

We ALL need to complain, and keep on complaining, loudly. The paint on these trucks should not be flaking. Toyota cut corners or whatever they did, sold us all a $38,000 truck that needs to be re-painted in a couple of years. Don't just get your blood pressure up, let's DO something about this for each other, for everyone. What Toyota is doing to all of us is so wrong.

Any updates front the above on an outcome? Noticed my 2017 peeling today on the rear passanger door exactly the same as member Sig916. I guess I'll be calling the dealership and then Toyota direct. This truly SUCKS !

My 2016 is having the exact same paint issues. Rear driver's side window and where body meets hood - both sides. Taking it to the dealer to see what they'll do.

I've got a super white 2017 as well. Just noticed flaking on the hood and tailgate. It looks exactly like everyone's pics above. I went by the dealership last Friday and will update you all once they respond. After reading this I'm a lot less hopeful. I'll be calling Toyota corporate to let them know also. If they know it's the paint why are they limiting it to certain models. Pretty ridiculous with a $50,000.00 truck
