Realistically, when do you think you can retire?

It’s all about what you do in retirement. People that dive into hobbies and stay active and find things that get them excited to get out of bed seem to thrive. Those who allow it to seem they have no purpose without work often do not have a rewarding retirement. I’ve always viewed retirement not as “not working” but as the freedom to do whatever you choose when you get there. At 30 someone may think they just want to get to 55 and be done working. Or you may love your job and couldn’t imagine not doing it. But you don’t know how you’ll feel when you actually are 55 or 60. Saving for retirement is to allow your future self the opportunity to choose.

The first few weeks after i retired were strange. My body was so used to the routine that it sent me into a kind pf depression. Kinda like damn , im not wanted or needed anymore. Took awhile to understand that this is just the next chapter.

Planning on an early death, retirement seems very far fetched. But who knows, I do have a good retirement fund started and I max out my 401K contributions.

    This is my biggest fear.

I do have lots of hobbies that can make me money. I worry that my hobbies will become a job.

Finding that balance point is going to be a challenge.

You do you, but fishing, hiking , camping, 4 wheeling, and generally doing whatever I want whenever I want sounds a lot more appealing than having a job.

    Can't say.

Been too much stress working. It took its toll. I eat great. Exercise. Don't sleep. Silent killer. Still BP and blood sugars borderline because stress. Carry it everywhere.

Simply going to be great to let that all go.

I really enjoyed driving for UPS. Customers treated me very well. I delivered way out in the country , so i didn't many commercial businesses. Most was rural community and farms. They looked after me very well.

I’d nominate this as Post-Of-The-Year if we had such a thing.

I took a deep dive into propulsion when I was reading J.S.A. Corey's Expanse book 1...The amount of thrust generated over time from continuous mini-propulsions ion engine w/ xenon is astonishing. https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/missions/dawn/technology/ion-propulsion/

To be fair, people in biblical times were living into their hundreds, or if you go by archeologists they were living up 40 years. Either way, retirement probably wasn’t a concern. :)
