Did you try the suggestion a few pages back of letting the fuel pump prime before actually starting the truck?

Yes. To be honest, I cannot recall if it helped so I will try it again. However even if it did help, I don't think that it would necessarily indicate anything different than what I have already found. For example if fuel pressure is bleeding when it shouldn't be, allowing the fuel pump to prime would prevent the noise from happening but wouldn't specifically point to which part is allowing the fuel pressure to bleed. And it certainly wouldn't get Toyota off their asses, as it seems nothing will at this point. All that being said, Toyota told me they tested the fuel pump (whether or not they actually did anything more than hook up a scanner tool remains to be seen) and that it is 100 percent healthy. Which I also find hard to believe considering the massive Toyota fuel pump recall that is sure to include my truck in the near future.

I think my best bet is honestly just to file lemon law. I shouldn't have to do Toyota's f***ing job for them. I don't mind trying to solve problems; I actually kind of enjoy it but this is absolutely f***ing ridiculous.

I know it's shity but it might be worth it to try ovtune. We had an iteration of the tune that had the same stumbled start condition you're experiencing, it's since been fixed, so it might be worth it to try the newest iteration and be done w wack ass Toyota and their "master techs". Heres my experience of an old version of that tune.

It would at least eliminate a lot of things right? Electrical, starter & solenoid, etc

Strange! What iteration of tune? Youre 04B04 right? You're not running the old stumble start performance tune?

Nope. I don't follow the crazy OV threads much anymore but I got that stumble tune, had the stumble real bad, flashed back to what I was at before, then when the "fix" came I flashed to it and have run that tune for about 6K miles now. It's definitely not as bad as on the stumble tune but its still every once in awhile and it all started with that stumble tune , might be coincidence though.

Interesting. I've never had it since that tune. Fairly certain we were on the same time.

Good luck OP, sounds like it's time to go the lemon law route assuming you've already contacted your Toyota regional office.

    Very true.

Just wanted to leave this here for the sake of documentation if I do have to file lemon law. I reached out to the dealership where I bought the truck and spoke to their service manager. I asked her if I could send her the video of the problem before bringing it in and see if she thinks it sounds wrong. I sent it and she called me back just now. She said she showed it to her "field service technician" and he said "yeah, it definitely sounds like there is some sort of crank hesitation problem." The reason I am documenting this here is because I have an appointment to bring the truck to that dealership on December 1st and I if they try and pull the whole "it sounds normal card", I am going to refer back to this thread because they stated themselves that it doesn't sound right.

Wish you the best of luck. Not sure how much weight an internet forum will hold though..

But at any rate, I think the old "kill em with kindness" saying will apply here. Sure everyone you have dealt with at Toyota has plenty of other cases going on at the same time as yours.

Just pulled two of the spark plugs tonight one was a little soot covered and burnt up but not sure if it was too bad. The other was completely burnt and completely soaked with a strong odor of gasoline. Looks like I found the leaking injector?

Funny that you mention that. I did notice that my truck took a bit longer to start once warm, i found that a bit odd that none of my vehicles did that. Also it did make that weird clicking sound on stock tune once in a while but not as bad as OP's.

After OV tune, it seems to srart much quicker and i didnt not hear this clicking sound ever since i tuned. I think you are right about just shelling out for the tune, then going through all this crazy shit. Dealing with these fuckers is time consuming, stressful and just shouldnt be that way. I had some nasty experience with the dealers so I know it really sucks sometimes.

Thats excellent advice but when i was dealing with my dealer over some minor issues, they simply did not give a shit about me, It was very clear to me. What really worked for me was when i Cc'ed GMs email in my email to the service manager and wrote how unhappy i was, since the issues were very clear and they werent doing anything to fix it. After that stuff got done with no fuss at all. Its sad how most dealers treat customers.

I honestly think its because most people dont know shit about cars and just believe what the dealer says, because its the best place to take your car right? It should be, but 90% of time its the opposite.

I know quite a few folks personally that only use their dealers for maintenance and repairs, they swear by it.

I’ve had this happen once and that is from killing the engine then restarting it too soon. In your event this is after a period of time. I searched in the owners manual and nothing, hopefully you get some kind of news out of this.

You’re saying the noise is from this or the spark plug being soaked is from this? Either way I’m not sure that’s the case because I haven’t done that more than maybe 3 times tops since I’ve owned the truck.

Guys I’m not trying to get you to search for problems with your truck but if yours is making this noise, it is not normal. I pulled my spark plugs last night and they are completely soaked with gas, at least one of them is so bad that I would be surprised if that cylinder was even firing at all. I would advise you to file a complaint with the NHTSA and bring your truck in to Toyota to get it looked at because they obviously put some bad injectors in a whole lot of vehicles. This is how recalls begin; Toyota has a long history of ignoring big problems only until enough people complain about it.

No I’m saying I’ve only heard this sound once from my truck and that was due to me killing it and restarting it immediately after. After researching it in the manual it tells you to wait a few seconds after then engine is shut off prior to restarting it.

Your situation as I said was different,
Now that you have identified a problem take it back into Toyota and have them see what the bigger picture is. Have them pull the plugs and see what they say.
