vF Tuner for the 3.5L Tacoma

I apologize if this question has been asked countless times before, but I didn't want to read all 400+ pages here or the development thread. What tune should I start with?

I just got my stuff from OVTune and I bought the tune pack since it is on sale for Black Friday right now. I have a 2016 Tacoma Off-Road on 285/75/16s and am wanting to stay on 87 octane. Should I do base or performance? Which is better for mpgs for daily driving?

 

I'm in the same boat minus the last part. What's the best for zoom zoom zoom? IDGAF about gas mileage I'm guessing for now 33 THX tune that I got with the tune pack but also wondering if I should try others offered in here- I do need to do the AGM voltage upgrade too.

Also whoever recommended the HP Stream 11" thank you, I actually like this little thing and I typically HATE windows. I like that it comes with Windows 10 Pro, I almost bit on a cheaper one that runs S mode but I think this is a pretty darn good deal. It's so portable and actually works pretty well/is faster than I thought it would be coming from a i9 core new macbook pro. Just waiting on my system ID registration and cable now!

The 2.0 tunes are base tunes. They are better than stock, but not performance tunes. If you want a performance tune for 04B04 (2016-2017), look in my signature or @Mooseditty17 ’s signature for download links. Mpgs will be the same or better than stock. Most get better.

@PapaRee any chance you have an agm edit to one of your tunes? I need to do it soon and probably can figure it out as I’m pretty tech savy and there’s good info out there already on it but figured I’d ask since I’m new to VfTune.

Why not just run it in your Mac? Boot camp is so easy

 

Multiple reasons. Too much important stuff on my macbook pro and it is maxed out to the extreme on it’s build- I don’t even want to think about how much $$ that or my desktop was- as I’m an architect and need a high performance machine, not risking any windows bologna on that. Plus it’s a 16”, I wanted something I could have as a dedicated tuning computer that was more compact. I can lock this one up behind my rear backseat in its locking compartment easy and tune whenever. Also cause if I spill beer on it while working on the truck I mess up a $275 laptop as opposed to something that was serious money.

Which of the throttle positions on the vF logger corresponds to the x axis of the torque converter tables? Is there any fudge factor with this? Will there be TC state logging in the future?

Great question. I would also really like to know the answer to this for the shift maps.

 

How long has it been taking? I sent my calibration id on Thursday and got the auto response . I sent my software registration on Tuesday afternoon and got it back Thursday morning. Instructions didn’t say what to put as subject id, hope that didn’t mess up/it didn’t end up in spam

No it isn't going to cost you $1250.

I have said we will be making a tuning guide free for everyone.
But if someone wants continual individual assistance with several tables, continually, that is what the pro tuner upgrade is for. additional maps, development, access to special patches, individual assistance.



The axis on torque converter is ACCELERATOR. GAS PEDAL position.



As we have said before, we will limit how much individual tuning assistance we are going to give.
Having an issue with the software is not the same as needing tuning help or help understanding how tables work.

 

Asking what the axis values reference shouldn't be considered "personalized assistance." Nobody can fluently operate your software. So until you have a user manual for this months old software that you continue to put off because we are "collaborating with one another as you had intended". AKA, we're figuring it out on our own.... We're gonna have tons of questions. Sorry for being negative today TW, but your answer was super inappropriate! I've literally argued with people about the mislabeled and unintuitive names of maps! Normal throttle limits control ECT power for instance. And until you A: release information on wtf it is we're working with or B answer our "personalized" questions, all we have is intuition.

If you have some major problem with vF Tuner, or you need something that is missing, need information about a PID. We are happy to oblige.
But asking us what to set maps to is not the same as correcting / fixing / troubleshooting / etc.

The snarky comments are totally uncalled for. Nobody is forcing you to use vF Tuner.
AND JUST LIKE I SAID YESTERDAY, You can play around with the stock tables forever and you'll never get what you're looking for. I've been tuning this truck going on 3 + years... If you want easy, simple tuning of the transmission wait for our TCU patch coming to vF Tuner.

Don't get mad at me because the transmission / torque converter isn't doing what you want it to do.



If you think a table is labeled incorrectly, or a table reacts differently than you expect, best person to tell is me so we can check and update it if necessary.


And yes, figuring it out on your own is part of the process, like ANY tuning software.
