I held on to my 26" bike for far too long and that was several years ago. Any newer bike will improve your riding tremendously. I understand holding on to the old bike, but it's really an easy decision.

Keep the 26 for bar rides and throwback rides. Mine is for bar runs or when a friend comes over for bar runs

Fair enough. I do plan to keep it and put a rigid fork and mechanical disc brakes and maybe use it for commuting to/from work, make it an urban rider instead. Will probably still do a 1 by though.

ohh, question. another issue I was having Saturday was my dropper post. it didn't want to go down.

sometimes I'd push the lever and nothing, then I'd do a little taint bounce and it would go. sometimes, the taint bounce didn't work. it always came up, just not down.

no I didn't give my dropper a viagra. so what should I look at to fix this?

how old is the dropper post? either your seat collar is too tight or your dropper post needs servicing. likely a new cartridge.

What post? If Reverb forget it
Double check the seat collar torque and in some cases the cable housing can bind up

Unfortunately some droppers fail early on. Send it in for servicing, usually around $50 depending.

yeah. if it's reverb, go get a new post. haha. if it's almost any other brand, you can get it serviced. new cartridge or greasing up likely. or you can be sensual and take some grease and rub it up and down the stanchion.............. :anonymous:

what is the "cartridge"? I just don't understand how it can come up no issues, but going down it has a problem. it's not every time either, but it was frequent on Saturday.

in most droppers it's the hydraulic/air spring unit that helps it move up and down. the valving inside of it can get dirty and prevent flow in one direction or the other. for example, on my oneup, I can just take it apart and pull out the cartridge, put in a new one and assemble it all back and it's good as new. not every dropper is made that way though. an x-fusion is okay but there are better droppers out there.

I think modern Reverbs get more hate than warranted. They deserved the bad rep in the past, but my Scout came with one and it's been completely trouble free for 3 seasons now. Absolutely zero maintenance.

Check the cable tension at the lever and at the bottom of the seatpost. Make sure the cable housing is fully seated in both locations. It's an easy thing to check before taking things apart or sending off for service.

Also, as said before, check your seatpost clamp. Loosen it up (a lot) and see if you have the same issues.
