    Hey everyone,

new guy here. introducing myself. Located in MSP area (south burbs).
currently waiting for my first tacoma to come in. My first order of business would need to locate a OEM Tonneau cover. Any for sale from MN users here before jumping in CL or FB?

After that — tires or tint maybe. hmm :)

Welcome! Tires for sure. The stock tires aren’t great, especially with winter picking up.

Agreed, I put on a set of Duratracs this past Saturday. Was at the Discount Tire in Minnetonka and it was packed with people getting winter tires.

As for the tonneau, I'm waiting for Black Friday deals. Should be able to pick one up then. Along with a few other things.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Do you have any recommendations? I know KO2s are popular and am leaning towards those. I’ve also seen people recommend windpeaks.

I don’t intend to lift the truck or do any trimming to fit in a phat tire. At least for a long while. Not quite sure the tire size to get — if opted for the k02 — shall i follow discount tires, recommendation of
    265/70 R16 SL?

    Cheers!

Duratrac, Wildpeak AT3W and KO2 - can't go wrong with any of these and if you're not off-roading then it won't make a difference. There is a difference in load range, which you don't really want the E on the KO2s, but I've seen people who don't OR drive C's on the KO2s just fine.

I went with 265/70/17 on the Duratracs.

    Welcome!

Unless you are really tied to the OEM tonneau or the look of it in particular, I'd recommend a different cover. I had one on my previous truck and the pegs that stick out from the sides that it attaches to were a pain. Catch myself and other stuff on them, tear open leaf bags when bringing them to the compost site, and so on. Also hard to find if you don't get it from the factory since you have to replace the bed rails as well (though if you find someone selling theirs they'll likely want to trade them with you).

For tires, KO2 are pretty standard. I've heard ice performance isn't great on them, which may matter in MN, but really that is going to be similar for most all-seasons. I've heard good things about the Toyo Open Country A/T III's, they are currently my top choice when I hopefully do mine in the spring.

The falkens are great all around and way better than the ko2 in the snow

I have the falkens on my heep I'll be getting rid of (just got the Taco), have a 4 Runner co-worker who has the Duratracs (big Toyota fan and he's what got me onto the Taco bandwagon) and a F-150 Raptor co-worker with the KO2s. Basically our work parking lot has sported 3 of the top tires for SUVs/Trucks.

I contacted the Discount Tire rep on these forums and he priced out those three for me in the size I wanted and let me know of any discounts, etc. and I went with the Duratracs. No issues driving in this morning on the wet pavement, so, so far so good!

Still unsure about the Falken Wildpeaks. They were a great value but after the rumor of compound change I'm still waiting to see how people do with them over the winter.

This is the first I’ve heard of a compound change

I’m on my second set (56k on the first). Also have a set on my tundra and @Tigerian truck.

Been running them over 2 winters on my Jeep and they are fantastic. I really didn't have any other reasons beyond a more aggressive side wall tread pattern as to why I went Duratrac this time around. I guess to then also try a different tire.

The rumored change happened in spring/summer, so unless you bought them fairly recently, it wouldn't have affected you. Waiting to hear from people who got them this year and to see what they say.

Interesting. I’ve had them about a month or so. No real snow yet. What change did they supposedly make and for what reason?

Quick search only found someone else suggesting this in another forum.

I’m now running Toyo Rough Country A/T III. Better all around in dry, mud, pavement etc than my Cooper Discoverer A/T3. Can’t speak on snow since the Tacoma is stored all winter.
