Ethanol and fuel pump failure?

    My opinion is the high temperatures have the most to do with this. I was not aware that nylon reacts with ethanol any more than with gasoline. The research I've done indicates you are probably correct in that assessment. However, it seems that even pure gasoline will degrade nylon over time, especially at increasingly higher temps.

    FWIW, I always fill my truck with pure gas if available, even before all this came out. I'm just not convinced you can fill your tank with E0 and not have to worry about a fuel pump failure due to the impeller swelling.

    Edit: To add to this, it's still clearly a manufacturing defect. E10 should not pose any threat to a fuel pump.

    I agree about temperature. The big deal in my assessment is that there were tolerance issues with the noted pump batches and the ethanol was a contributing factor to the failure. All pumps will eventually fail and mass produced products have an acceptable early failure rate. Would E0 have had a different than acceptable early failure rate? That is a good question.

    The odd part is that they didn't do a control E0 case.


    E0 is pretty far away from me at a higher price. I did enjoy it with noticeable changes on my bike when I had the opportunity to use it.

    Yeah, I found that odd as well. Maybe being targeted at a specific audience, the effects of E0 are well known and assumed for these materials.
