I plan (if enough demand) to offer a traveling valve shim kit w/ the tools beginning next month . Here’s how it will work. You rent it for 150.00, I mail it, you keep it a week. Use whatever you need and mail it back w/ your old shims. No need to replace what you use. I plan on tossing the old ones on a surface grinder to make new popular sizes. If you think this makes sense give this a thumbs up. So much easier having everything on hand, just grab a valve cover gasket set and go to town. Any other insight welcome... Maybe have a couple, three roaming the nation. Thanks

Idk if the shims are case hardened, but I believe they are. Id be careful with "tossing them on a surface grinder" before making sure. I suppose you could only reduce one side, but still.....

Where did you get the kit from? Toyota?

I would imagine they are hardened but they are certainly hard enough to be ground. BCF1758A-E7A5-47E7-9374-E3B830A47553.jpg

There's going to be a sour apple who will just keep it and not return it.

I think this is a bad idea, that's just me.

But, get 2 good dudes to do it and make your money back. I hear they have it on a lot of bike forums. Me, id tend to agree with you. But if there are enough genuine dudes I could see it working. Maybe $275 deposit and you get $125 back when its returned. Thatd cover your ass at least.

True. Rent higher and partial deposit return later. The only downfall is that you can't hold them accountable.

I like this idea and honestly this should be more common in a community like ours.

Having said that, my 5VZ is creeping up to 250k now and I'll likely do this job in spring/summer once it warms back up again--will see how this materializes.
