What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Anybody know of a company besides Rago that makes bed stiffeners for 1st gens? Or is that the only one

just make your own if you can. Super easy, took me like 3 hours ish? As as was packing the truck up that same day haha

Whats the advantage of those?

 

Are the holes already pre-existed? Or do you have to drill them?

 

The bedsides are kinda floppy I remember on my 1st gen the tailgate/bed body lines were off so I shoved the bed a couple times on each side and was able to bend them back

 

Helps prevent the bed from flexing and cracking, not as big an issue with our trucks as it is with the 2nd/3rd gens and their composite beds. But if you carry a lot of weight it can be an issue

To keep the bed from spreading. If you look at your tail gate some aren't straight gapped anymore. More common with bed rack installs.

Mine was splitting right at the bed rails just past the tail lights. Welded it up this summer.

No have to drill them yourself.

Yeah mine has washers. But I wouldn't mind doing a long piece of steel under there.

Yup. Pretty easy to make and save a little coin in the process.

 

I just got my salvage yard seats and console installed. I posted a pic in this thread on Sunday. 2001 Matrix with almost same color interior as one of my 95.5 trucks.

I had to use spacers under the outside legs, and cut and weld on the front, inside tab to match the seat reinforcement weld nut location. W/O the spacers, the seats would not have been level in the left to right direction. I was able to use the vertical attachments on the rear inside leg without any changes.

Blocks stand out too much now, but I will find some paint to tone them down a bit. Ugly, but worth it for the extra comfort of the new seats.

These seats sit higher,with the blocks but are perfect for me at 5'11" and with the way I like to hold St Wheel.

Another option would have been to cut off the tacoma seat bracket and cut off the matrix ones then weld on the entire lower bracket to the matrix seats. I bet that could also lower them down a touch too if that is ever an issue.

 

When I did Scion tC seats. I cut the feet off and made my own. Worked pretty good and lowered the seats to a better height

 

I just added the Rago, I got them on sale and with them powder coated and the hardware it was a pretty good deal. Although I could have made it cheaper as I’m sure I have enough scrap metal laying around. I was being lazy haha
