Yeah he said anything over 31” is “oversized” and 35” and up is a larger fee. Claims that he has to trailer the tires 1.5 hours away to Abilene.

Wonder if Meineke or discount will take them. Firestone and Goodyear are on my blacklist for... reasons.

 

Dang here is only $1.75 a tire... Think they keep it cheap so people don't stockpile old tires

Trains get expensive

 

They’re retiring the old BART trains. I really kinda want one. They’re free but you have to pay logistics to transport it, so around $10,000 door to door.

 

So much room for light bars tho

 

You can find cheaper trains on the street

Drive down 395 there is a lot of trains in the mojave desert that haven't moved in years.

 

It was like a press release, the reason they can't sell them (and have to scrap them or give them away for free) is the original funding came from the federal government. If they ever profit off the physical cars themselves, a portion of that has to go back to the gov't. So it's literally not worth it. It's easier and cheaper to scrap them. They're all aluminum, made by Rohr in the 60's which was an Aerospace company.

Some san fransiscan needs to build an entire train of tiny houses out of them. Be a heck of a project.

Sucks to see, but at least they're updating and not scraping the whole transit plan.

 

There used to be a huge commuter rail system way back in the early 20th century here called the Key System. Actually ran under the Bay Bridge and all over SF/Oakland/Berkeley. With funding from General Motors (IIRC) they bought the system and dismantled it. Commuter trains = no car sales.

 

And thus the plot of Roger Rabbit.

Hope it comes back someday. At least during non-covid times, riding transit in other cities overseas is super convenient, i miss it over here.

 

Transit systems SUX here. When I was in the UK, I took the Eurostar from London to Paris. They are hundreds of years ahead of us with rail travel. I went to the dining car and the restaurant looked like an Apple store. I told the dude behind the counter I was from San Francisco and he got excited because he was a Warriors fan. Dude about fainted when I told him I watched them play the previous month in Oakland.

 

lol yeah, those trains are nice. Smooth ride, comfy, fast. Its so easy over there. Did Barcelona to Avignon to Paris to London a few years ago, never had to rent a car, just walk to the train, wander around the train station, hop on another train.

Paris still smells like piss though.
