Question about RGB rock lights with bluetooth app

I understand that these are controlled with your phone through an app. I was just wondering if anyone knows if instead of wiring them to the battery, if you wired them to a switch would they turn on with the last used setting in the app?

 

I'm 99% sure the set I have in the box retained the last setting when I was testing it out.

 

I recently got a set of these RGB Bluetooth Rock Light (pods) aswell.

A little off topic from the OP but it is to do with these lights. I didn’t want to post a new thread, figured this would be easier, and I have searched but no specifics on these lights.

I noticed on these lights there is no inline fuse just a positive and negative wire from the box. In my head I’m saying run the inlinne between battery and Bluetooth box, but what about if you are going to install a on/off rocker switch or kill switch so that the Bluetooth signal isn’t on constantly? Would you want to be running a relay?
Has anyone done this? Any links appreciated.
The Bluetooth idea is great for the colour changing but if your phone breaks or the battery dies your stuck pulling the fuse, where as with a switch it would be able to be on/off without the app with the last colour setting you were using.
Assuming RPS1030 is correct with the retaining settings.

 

Depends on the brand. Generic controllers probably. Controllers like the Morimoto XBT default to white so you're not in illegal rave mode should you accidentally hit the switch in front of a cop.

mom wondering about this as well. I just ordered a set of these rock lights and I’m wondering how you would connect a ch4x4 push switch to them that can be used inside the cab. Any suggestions would be great

 

i hacked the XBT controller's bluetooth using an ESP32. It can now retain settings and do alot more.
The 3 ports are controllable, including individual control of each ports color in solid, fading, and strobing mode. you can even turn a channel on or off. I am waiting for warmer weather to install my rock lights, in the mean time I am integrating CANbus as well so I can control the colors over CAN ( doors open, remote starts, floor lighting when doors open, etc) I really hated the morimoto apk dependancy so not im not bounded to use it. hooking up a switch to the ESP32 for manual control of the XBT controller channels is toooooo simple. Best part is color retention, and if i factory arm, i set a timeout that after the period, it pulses the XBT to turn off every several seconds (in case you reconnect the battery lets say) so if it turns on white it'll just shut off and not drain your battery

heck we can now change colors by speed or rpm if we wanted. ha ha

also with my method, cutting power to an XBT controller, whenever repowered and redetected, the white light returns to your retained previous values within 0.5 seconds. This is awesome

you can even install 3 pots to control each color, but i dont need that on my console, everyone has a preference

i didnt want a generic alibaba rock light kit, thats why i chose morimoto, but the controls were lacking, same with the knockoffs, and they dont all have same wiring, so good luck finding replacements if your rock lights fail and need to be replaced. at least i can source several places in Canada here to get morimoto rock lights. I am ordering some ESP32 boards from UK with 12v and CAN support. it will be basically plug and play install. as soon as the chip boots up, the lights are set and you are ready

 

More info on this? I have some ESP32 boards, and have setup a basic light setup with WLED.

Where did you mount the controller?
Have you considered DIG-QUAD or DIG-UNO? (12V Vin capable!)
Other thoughts?
