snowboarders: Mammoth or Big Bear

Whattup TW!

I'm looking into planning a snowboard trip with my family in SoCal and I need your guys' help.

I know that folks down south go to either Mammoth or Big Bear, so which one is better? How do they compare to the resorts in Tahoe?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Driving wise though, Mammoth is a lot farther than Big Bear, right? My cousins are in HB

 

Mammoth is a lot farther north than Big Bear.

Big bear is southeast of LA and Mammoth is north east.

 

Mammoth is much bigger, its a good place to go on a road trip with your buddys. I was at big bear this last weekend and its nice up there, very family friendly. I would go with big bear. Its cheaper and closer. GO 49ERS!!!

I was leaning toward Big Bear because it's closer and my cousins in HB would be bringing their kids, so overall better for them. It'll be a hell of a drive for me, but ehhh what the hell.

I was looking at the 2 websites and saw that Mammoth was a lot bigger as far as trails and lifts, but the lift tickets were waaay more money.

I just hope Big Bear isn't a huuuuuuge drop off from any of the Tahoe slopes.

Anyone with experience with Big Bear and Tahoe and can give a fair assessment?

 

big bear is alot smaller than most tahoe resorts. Similar to bear valley or dodge ridge. snow conditions in mammoth are way better then big bear. Mammoth is much better the big bear, resort wise. Just depends if you have the cash for mammoth cause its wayyyy expensive. (i've been to all three)

ok Mammoth is waaaaaay better than Big Bear! But the cost for Mammoth is much more. I always go snowboarding to Big Bear, it is a great place. There can be some major douchebags there sometimes, that spray snow at you and crap like that, but rarely. I always try to go to Mammoth once or twice a year(it is a nice treat cause it is more money cause of the hotel and lift tickets and food). Mammoth is bigger and better especially right after it has snowed! Powder runs at mammoth are like heaven! So if you got the money then go to Mammoth!

i have been to tahoe, mammoth and big bear. i actually went to big bear this past saturday and while it was fun it is nothing close to tahoe or mammoth. not all the lifts are running at big bear which kinda sucks because its not like they have that many to start with compared to mammoth or tahoe. mammoth right now has a 4-7 foot base while big bear has like a 1-2 base with like 90% being man made snow. while big bear is way closer, cheaper and will satisfy your basic snowboarding fix its nothing close to tahoe or mammoth.

 

X2...Mammoth is by far superior! Big bear is fun but mammoth is on a different level in all many ways. I've been to all three and I love mammoth. Drive sux, but worth it.

 

just go to mammoth waay better snow, more lifts, bigger resort

 

I snowboard in Tahoe, Mammoth and Big Bear every year. If you go to Big Bear you will be very disappointed.

Compared to Tahoe and Mammoth, Big Bear is very small, super crowded and the small amount of snow they have is almost always man made and icy.

 

I say we get a TW Mammoth run going sometime this season !!

 

That would be awesome. I'm gonna try and was out there late february.

 

mammoth by far i have a season pass to bear and wish i lived closer to mammoth....but bear is still great
