dents and missing bits, built in the Gravel garage, hillbilly trained mechanic…
It’s a fine spot, looking forward to getting back up there this coming spring. Got COVID19 lockout, =Canadian border closed this last spring. Didn’t want to fly, so....
Hopefully they should have all the protocols sorted out by then.

Now that they have it semi sorted(unless it changes again) I will be heading back up this spring and back to work. Eastern Washington is pretty nice but AK rules.
Last several years I have been splitting time between the Am, McMurdo, and Washington. Taking a break from the Ice and just staying in the US for a change, domestication does that.

You can generally see the lights from mid August on, and a decent option might be just to go up the Chena Hot Springs, easy to get to if you are traveling later in the fall.

Damn that's expensive for just gears. Should include a front locker for that much.
Mine was 3800 for front and rear ARB's with dual ARB compressor. (that was grand total after sending my old stuff in for the core charge)

Yeah, I’m thinking going 48 miles away to shaefers might be worthwhile.

Edit: what route did you take?

    Looks like a fun trail!
    Which axle said bye-bye? Rear?

Edit: forgot to respond to this.
If you want somewhere local, I think they'd be a good option. I looked into them when I was doing my gears.

Looks like you'll be doing that re-gear sooner than later I guess....lol

what do you mean what route?

    Yup, rear axle.
I had it towed to rear end specialties in Santa Clara.
Yeah, just not the best timing. Oh well.

By route I mean have a shop do everything vs ECGS thirds and install yourself
    vs doing it ALL yourself.

    Gotcha.
I did ECGS. Best of both worlds imo. Save a lot of cash, but don't have to do any of the gear lash and preload yourself.
That and their warranty is better than any other gear shop that I know of.

That's what I recommend to anyone who wants to do gears thats mechanically inclined.

I was going to do ECGS until about 6 months ago I decided I don’t like working under my truck for any extended period of time.

I don't blame ya on that one. It gets old quick
The rear third member was super quick to do. Maybe like max 2 hours of work from drain to fill.
The front is a different story. More of a pita to get in and out and more involved.

Yeah, I’ve pulled a rear diff that was leaking. Super easy.

Could also just do ECGS yourself for the rear and then have a shop do the front

Well, turns out it’s a bit more involved.

Other casualties are the spider gears, the carrier thing and the locker are all hosed.
The wheel bearings aren’t looking so great either.

Good lord! You really did that ring gear dirty!

If the carrier is hosed, I wouldn't think ECGS would accept it as a core

Could be worth a call though and see what they have to say about it. They might have some advice/suggestions on the matter as to what the most economical option might be. Their customer service is great.
