Guys, just want to make sure I’m not going crazy. I know the box says RH, which I’m assuming now is for right hand, but this is the correct part number correct?

And the handle I bought doesn’t have the electrical connections needed to complete the mod, right?

Does the handle have the smart handle bars like this ?

As for the electrical connections, you have to purchase them separately.

The part numbers for the electrical parts should be in the first page of the thread.

I can search my email and see if I can find my invoice for the part numbers if you need me to.

Where’s the rest of the internals? There should be a socket for the connection

    Center console organizer.
The electronics are built into the handle. Once you get the other pieces it'll all make sense. :) Happy trailing through the boot!

Yeah, the handle I bought/received has those grooves

    AC8CBCB4-75B6-4AAF-89E1-5AC1EFA8B3A8.jpg

Threw me off because I was like wait, where are the electrical plugs supposed to go on my blank handle!

Thanks for posting your actual handle guys, definitely looks like I’m missing the electrical internals on the new handle I ordered.

As far as wiring, I ordered the @Accessorides harness.

Have a good rest of your Sunday everyone.

That’s super weird, I guess that’s just the shell of the handle. Didn’t know they sold that as a standalone part. (Or maybe they don’t??!!)

That’s not a full handle. Maybe they changed something for 2020/2021, but your missing half the handle.
Curious how much did you pay?
    Part number looks correct

I think you ordered the correct thing but part of the handle is missing. I was wondering cost because if you said it was half that I would understand why, but you paid the same price as the full smart handle.

Maybe a manufacturing error or maybe someone may have purchased, gutted what they needed and returned the shell scamming the parts guy that doesn’t know better, who then sold to you.

I’d return and order another, even if from another place to be sure you don’t get the same one back.
    Good luck.

I bought mine from McGeorge. Was the cheapest i found when i was shopping for the handle. This included the shipping cost to Hawaii though. You folks on the mainland have more options.

    Right? At least an option.

I feel like the Tacoma is purposely using tried and true systems that are bulletproof, but old. Love the Tacoma but my ‘14 Ram has more options than a ‘20 Taco.

Should work just fine. If you tap the wires coming from pin 1&2 from the smart key ECU you can tap off the factory passenger side handle.

Just reporting back that I got pin 1 & 2 to work on my 2021. I made the looms and fished them through the doors, but broke a pin in the process (ARRRGH!) so had to stop there. Waiting for the new one to come in, but once I fix that, I'll swap handles, tie up the taps and should be GTG.

    Thanks you @Victory

Does anyone have a link to a video or forum for swapping out the passenger handles? I want to swap out my chrome handles for cement....This forum is helpful for the drivers/passengers handles but the rear/passenger handles do not have the same easy removal option....

    I followed this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/removing-rear-door-handles-finally.468804/

They are all pretty much the same. Relatively straightforward. The nut that holes the handles on is a T30 Torx, and it is captive so, it will stay in handle (a nice touch to prevent it form dropping down into the door.).

In the rear you have undo the three T30 tori that hold the door latching mechanism in place (in the door jam area of the door itself) and then lower the latching mechanism into the door a bit to expose the T30 bolt that holds the door handle on. Its best to take a razor and cut some of the tar holding the plastic sheeting (moisture barrier) away, and move the the big black felt/foam sound insulator so you can reach inside the door and manipulate the latching mechanism out of the way. Also helps to undo the latching mechanism wiring harness to get it out of the way.

It sounds complex but once you're there its not.
    1. remove door panel (screw behind door handle and in armrest - then pull from Botton to top, front to back): Remove door panel and speaker 2016 and up Toyota Tacomawww.youtube.com › watch
    2. cut take (gently pull moisture barrier plastic back)
    3. undo latching wiring harness
    4. undo three T30 bolts holding latch in place and push it down
    5. look through hole where latch was and spot T30 bolt holding handle on - undo bolt. while doing this reach around to the outside of the door and hold the end cap at the back of the exterior handle (it is captive as well, but might fall off).
    6. pull handle from outside (rear to front). Insert new handle and reverse process.
