Access Cabs Rule Double Cabs Drool

I have the DCSB- would prefer the AC. Rear seats are nice with dogs, but I dont imagine they would complain in an AC. I am a little cramped camping/ sleeping in the short bed. Would trade for an AC. I think the proportions of the AC look better, but I do still like the looks of the DC, particularly with the topper on.

My first 2 Tacos were long beds. There just isn't that much difference between the 5 and 6 foot beds. 12" only matters in golf and porn.

 

Seven miles to get it home. Ordered an ARE topper and thinking about some TRD wheels. Not sure if the pros are available in 16 inch.

 

I picked up a 2019 access cab. A little over a year ago. Thought I'd appreciate a longer bed than interior space.

It was the equivalent of owning a very slow sports car. Not a whole lot of room inside, if we went out and did anything during the weekend. The inside of the truck filled up quick. I didn't like leaving things inside the bed.

Towed with it a few times and that was enough. Paid the truck off, sold it private party and got a good bit of coin back. Thankfully the truck had great resale value.

Took the money from the sale and put it into a 2019 Ram 2500 with a CTD. Even with 35s I get better fuel economy than I did with my Tacoma. Can't even feel the trailer behind me (same load).

Long story short. Had I got a double cab, I probably would have held onto the truck. I very rarely found myself excited over the longer bed, and often was frustrated living with the small cabin space.

 

If you want the Tacoma TRD Pro wheels they only come in 16" so you should be good. BTW - Congrats and welcome

 

I was sitting at the pub today watching cars go by and I saw about 50/50 AC to DC going by. But I do notice them more now after this thread.

Hey there! Some curiosity creeping up due to the dirtbike in the bed. What size KTM is that (engine & wheelbase if known)? And would it have fit straightforward in the bed with or without the tailgate up?

"...the equivalent of owning a very slow sports car..." There you go -- almost perfect, you need to add the words reliable and practical.

You don't sit in the access cab, you wear it like a favorite denim jacket. You cozy down in here with just a pretty girl in the passenger seat. It is tight and like a sports car every control is close to hand, have to give Toyota props for most of the interior layout being pretty tactile and slick looking too.

With the Sport suspension there is a sports car like feel -- sure, it is still a pick up truck and fairly slow one at that. That doesn't detract from the overall engaging driving experience when bopping along on a secondary road on a nice afternoon.

It does offer the un-sports car like features of not scraping the undercarriage in driveways or over speed bumps and a robust suspension, tires and bodywork that aren't generally damaged by random road hazards. Also sports cars aren't generally all that reliable (British ones at least), Toyota seems to have that one nailed down too. And if you need to move a dresser or get some mulch you have a very un-sports car like 6 foot bed.

Yeah, I'm pretty satisfied with my slow, wanna-be sports car access cab!

Full disclosure: I have an F-250 so if real truck jobs come up I'm covered, the Tacoma is my old guys sports car -- no way I could get in a TR6 or a Miata!

Besides, if I want to go fast, I have both a highly modified 2010 Mazda Speed3 and a 2011 Dodge Challenger R/T T/A to get my speed fix in.

 

I think the DC is a more widely purchased vehicle. I believe It's also a regional thing. Neither me or my son was able to get an AC here in NJ. Neither of us were hung up on color either. We both got SRs. Back in March black was basically what I was stuck with but I wasn't willing to compromise on price, I didn't want black, but I also didn't want to pay more than 27500 OTD, si I went to PA where they gave me the best deal. He wound up ONLY being able to get an SX in September and that was in Maryland, he got silver (which is what I really wanted). Around here it seems like the only way you can get an AC is with the SX package lately, and if you want a good price, you have to be willing to compromise on color.

 

Hmmm, that is so odd. I was NJ the couple of lots I stopped at to what was available were mostly AC non SX. That was maybe a couple months ago and one lot had nine Tacomas, seven of them were Access Cabs.

 

And war. And trucks haha

 

I had a 2008 Speed 3, bought new. Started modding right away and sold in 2017. It was 430 whp with a built motor, GT3071 pushing 27lbs, spraying 100% meth at the TB for auxiliary fueling and fully bolted. Car was scary, only took it out on the weekends to school just about everything on the road. Spent long weekends at Tail of the Dragon with Nator crew for years, had an absolute blast with that car. I sold it before it got me arrested.
