I generally like my 2020 3.5 V6 Tacoma but the one thing I dislike overrides everything I like.
When I press the accelerator I expect a quick response. Regardless of speed, when I try to accelerate quickly, my Tacoma hesitates as if thinking about what I want it to do. This is so frustrating. I don’t know if the issue is with the engine or transmission. Turning on ECT seems to help but I shouldn’t have to do this. I’m not a mechanic and don’t want to be. I don’t think I’m expecting too much out of this truck with only about 8k miles on it. Is this a common problem or am not understanding what my truck is doing? I haven’t asked dealer about my perceived problem. I expect their answer would be that this is not a problem. Any comments will be appreciated.

You need the tune. The factory calibration from Toyota is hot garbage

This is also my one and only complaint about these trucks.

I have the OV Tune and it helped a little. Still jerky when accelerating though.

Edit: the $14,000 Toyota Yaris I was loaned today while getting my fuel pump recall done was way smoother during acceleration

Find the TSB thread and get it done. Game changer for me.

If you took a test drive in your truck or another Tacoma didn't you notice the poor acceleration?

    It's a secret
It is in fact the way the mapping/tuning of the ECU has been programmed by Toyota...[[incorrect]]Gas pedal isn't directly controlled by a steel cable like the previous 1GR-FE Tacoma[[incorrect]], but some kind of electronic-doohickey-resistence-position-sensor-thingy...

The Tacoma has been Throttle By Wire since around 2003-2004 unfortunately.

I just recently bought a 2020, previously I had a 2017. Huge difference from factory. Regardless, I still got VFTune (OVTune) which still had a significant difference compared to stock. I highly recommend it if you want to feel like you're not driving a drive by wire (as much).

TSB.......if you're still not quite happy get the vf tuner kit and set it up how you like it.

That's why I sold the auto and got the 6mt. Just did fuel pump recall 2 days ago and that also made a difference, about 75% less hesitation than before. But like above a tune would be best.

I bought the Pedal Commander 3 months ago it's made a world of difference in acceleration. I should have bought this years ago makes driving a pleasure again.

They must have calibrated mine wrong at the factory, because I do not have this issue. No hesitation, shits & gets for a 6 cylinder...
