Thanks for the heads up. Super interesting as when I have called in the past, and let them know of 10-20 trucks they said no group rates or anything. No mention of this. This year we didn't check to see it had changed, but apparently it had.

Im all for paying to use an area that is maintained and requires the funds to run. Just wasn't aware, and Im glad they were nice about it in their email.
    EDIT—- $300!?!?!! Jesus fuck!

Looks like we will need a new place. I wonder what makes a group? like “up to 25” is pretty vague.....technically 3 people would have to pay that $300 fee.

Edit: incase someone tries to pull this out of context, new day and not in a shitty mood like i was in yesterday, meaning lets do the right thing here.

we need to give em a call to see if the $300 covers the entrance fee for everyone or is that just a flat fee with the $30 daily fee tacked on it per person.

implying that's the case, of it covering attendants. the $300 will break even at 10 people and will become cheaper per person.

If i really want to be an true "lawful"-evil asshole (kind of like those rich snobs that blast down the highways in lambos and purraries at 150km/h say "when was your radar gun calibrated?"). I'd like to know what is considered a "group" and "event" as well to see how far we can bend and interpret their definitions and rules to put us in a better light or some BS. (don't actually do this - again this is what most assholes do to get their ways). i bring it up since in most cases an "event" consists the presence of a vendor of some sort, at least this is what i was told by the border guards last year when i went to a "event" with a few buddies - which consisted of just hanging out at a bar.

but again, challenging the legal definitions will introduce a new clause next year preventing what we attempt and it will end up screwing not just myself, but the group, and literally anyone and everyone using the area that are part of smaller clubs and groups.

    :pccoffee:

so TLDR: better not be an asshole and just ask to clarify what the fee covers

Honestly I may call today just to clarify and apologize. Again don’t want to create a bad name for the club.

you are correct. $10 a vehicle would be cheaper. I was around $50 that day for myself alone. Just have to call and ask.

again, the last time I called, there was no group rates, so I was under the impression it hadn’t changed.

I am tagging everyone so everyone is aware. One of the people at the event was notified with the following message:

After getting off of the phone with Ed, who was very nice and understanding, there is a few things we can do differently/change.

    1. If you have any photos of BBQ or going through the mud area, it would be helpful to the Ganaraska if we could remove those photos from the public eye, as BBQ is not allowed, and they have been trying to fix that muddy area for some time. It is a sensitive area that is having research conducted in. Ed was very nice about how that muddy area is an on going issue and is not just because of us.
Again, the whole "monkey see monkey do" thing is in order here and to be honest we were subjected to it to since we have seen many vehicles stuck in there and just assumed it was a obstacle to do. This is not the case.

    2. If we have another run in the future, the organizers of that run will need to ensure a permit is acquired if there is 10 people or more.
This permit will need to be acquired 2-3 months in advance with routes planned out. The permit fee does cover everyone apart of that run so it is cheaper to go about it that way!

Tagging everyone so you can see this, if you have any imagery out there of BBQ or mud hole. Please remove it. This is helping the Ganaraska as we are not wanting to advertise it as acceptable.

I will say, it is imperative we speak with people who are in the upper management, as the last time I had phoned regarding organizing event, I wasn't given the proper information. Again, this is just out of ignorance, we didn't know. Now that we do, we can help out.

I will be emailing the OF4WD to make a trail report regarding the mud hole. Again, doing are part.

I also want everyone to know that this is a public forum and everything said is open to the public. So please keep that in mind.

technically with the group permit it would be cheaper. Hey, we can go to crown land, but it is much further of a drive.. Have to keep what we have open.

    1. Can do, the only images we have of the BBQ per-say is this thread, last year's thread, and the Ontario BS thread. We'd have to do some contacting of people to remove the images, but it's an easy enough task to do. (unless people put it up on Juustigram or other places of the sort)

if there was either a notification on their website or some sort of signage for the mudhole at the 3 entranceways, this would help in regards of letting the community know what is going on with the mudhole. we aren't the only ones to use it as a obstacle, so communication is key here. It's easy enough to do our part of not diving into, but it's hard to communicate that to people outside the club.

    2. Awesome to hear that the event fee is including attendants. that alone made it worth while.

as we usually have the event thread a few months ahead of the event - it's easy enough to tell the conservation at the same time.
Just the issue becomes that group insurance clause they had. I wonder if we can tell them that insurance is a person-by-person case? as our vehicles *should* be insured to drive on public roads, i'd imagine we could do that.

as the group fee covers 10-25 people (implying the $300 does not change next year) i'm all for going and doing this direction. we can always do a day of wheeling and then set up a bbq outside the conservation, some near-by park or so on so forth.

Absolutely. As for the mud hole, I do agree that signage would help, and Ed was very nice with regards to knowing it wasn’t just us.

his concern was more of the image of it being acceptable. Again, we thought it was. Now that we know we can atleast help to clean up that image.

I agree that next year it could happen again, and Ed was very positive with working with us next year.

I feel like we're going to need to become the model 4x4s in Ontario to help clean the shit image of 4x4s....
    :bananadead:
I'm not opposed to this idea, but it's a mountain of a task.

thanks for talking to Ed about this issue bud, it cleared up a lot of the air and i'm certainly a dick for telling em to shove it. But with new information - we can learn and be better now.

Old Logging Trail and Picard Lake Trail are a bit more interesting being level-2 (still stock friendly), and have nice spots for BBQ'ing near Picard Lake. Only drawback is they're 2 hours from Toronto: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ontario-bs-thread.249665/page-1601#post-24346517

Wheeling in the US depends on region. Cali, Colorado, and Utah have many good trails. Meanwhile Toyota's home state of Texas is almost 100% private land with nowhere to wheel.

Check out "Cruise Moab" (Toyota event)
    scheduled for April 12-18, 2021.

Ryan (son) and I did Moab in 2015. It's a life altering experience. Ardbeg is a mall crawl in comparison.

The trail guides are incredible (Red Rock 4x4 club).

Not sure what travel will be looking like by then though...

Oh I’ve been there and done solo trails before with my truck, almost died 2 or 3 times and had close calls to flip truck.

Next time going to be more hectic, since 35s can take me further and steeper!
