Nice 4 Runner! Is it an 87 or 88? I had an 88 pickup back in the day.

Can I drill the holes in my fender for the snorkel, have the fender painted then mount it? I have a new fender and don’t want to drill after paint.

You most certainly can, the only thing that you might run into is going to be the fitment regarding how it connects to your A-Pillar. Some drill the holes a little bit bigger so it can be "Shimmied" a little bit to make sure of this. Some people in your situation, be it a more extensive and time consuming way to go, is to take off your current fender, put on your new one, then drill the holes and make sure everything is lined up, then take the new fender off to paint it. When I drill the holes for the snorkels, I knock down the burrs with a small file and then hit the area with dabs of primer and then paint after drying. I haven't had any issues with rust. Plus the holes won't be seen anyway.

Thanks for the tips. I don't intend on drilling into the a-pillar. I'll use double sided tape to hold the bracket.

I did the same with heavy duty plastic velcro with heavy duty 3m tape.......but whether you are drilling into your A-Pillar or not (Just using tape) it still needs to line up without too much of a gap to do it.

I promised to share the results of my attempt to use a heat gun to remove the fade on my tailgate handle. I want to say that I do use Maguiars on virtually all my other black surfaces with excellent results. I suspect there is something about the tailgate plastic that is different that the other materials. I can get a bit of black on the handle with Maguiars but it seems to quickly regain the white haze. I'm trying this experiment to see if it makes a material difference and how long it will last.

Contrast tailgate handle with the bumper, tailgate cap, etc.
    upload_2020-11-27_14-53-0.jpg

I pulled the handle from the tailgate and removed the backup camera. Camera lens would not like the heat.
    upload_2020-11-27_14-40-6.jpg

If you take your time it will definitely darken the plastic. It takes a bit to get the heat up to the point that the material begins to darken. I don't think it returns it to the OEM state, but I do think it improves it.

If you decide to try this, then I would recommend you remove the gasket from the back of the handle. If you get in too big of a hurry and heat it in place then you may end up with my hard knock education.

I think this easily adds +5hp and will help younger women find me more attractive. YMMV. Good luck.

Made a few Black Friday purchases:
BAMF bed bars (actually did this on Wednesday), Dobinson snorkel and a set of five 285/75r16 Yokahama Geolander MTs.
Then made a small bracket to hold a couple of relays that sandwiches in between the angle bracket for my aux fuse panel bracket and the inner fender. Only have 2 mounted for now for an upgraded headlight harness but have enough room left over for the relays for both light bars I will be hooking up over the next few weeks. Then installed said headlight harness and new bulbs.

    So........
I have to walk back my statement that the bin doesn't rattle. I did some "adjustments" to the sub (read this as I turned it up) and it definitely will rattle it. With that said, I think I can trim a small bit of the lip off the bin where it touches the grill on the sub and get rid of the rattle.

First brandy new vehicle I ever bought was a loaded '86 pickup. That sucker towed my wife's CRX from SC to CA with the cruise and A/C on the whole way.
    22RE motor was something else.
If it hadn't been stolen in CA, I'd probably still own that thing.

It is advertised as having CarPlay but I use Android so I am able to utilize Android Auto with it. Works great! Even going from standard BT audio to Android Auto there's a minimal lag in time loading AA and switching the audio source. Steering wheel controls work, I utilized this to adapt the controls to the head unit. It wasn't plug and play but the install was easy enough.

The screen is right under 7in which like you said, looks great for the dash.

I've been loving it! Definitely an easy install for the headunit itself, I didn't get a plug and play harness for the steering controls though so that took some wiring finesse as well as integrating the OEM backup cam. New speakers is definitely the plan, the HU advertises a high-powered internal amplifier so I expect some upgraded speakers to sound quite nice.

So if I drill the smaller holes to 1/2" like the instructions say, there should be enough wiggle room?
I'm just thinking that if I drill the fender first that it won't line up with the a-pillar for some odd reason.

I think I may just take the extra time and pull the current fender off, install new fender, drill holes, line up snorkel and a-pillar, then remove the fender and have it painted.
