I wish I was on the ground tonight. Could have maybe gotten a clear shot at a nice buck. I set up high in a tree to be able to see farther becuase I passed a gut pile close to where I set up and I figured there were slim chances anything would come from that direction. I was proved wrong by a doe and her fawns as well as two bucks. Will make another play at it tomorrow from the ground instead of up 20’ swaying around in a tree 5” wide.

On another note... since they are still chasing I am debating trying out some doe scents tomorrow. Are any of them worth a shot or has anyone had luck with any? I’m on pretty highly pressured public so I’m leaning towards not using it but I feel like it could be worth a shot.

Saw my first little bit of rut action the morning. Had a small 3 or 4 point come in running a few does.
Camera just sent me pictures and had a new 8 point show up. Got 2 decent deer to go after now. The new one looks a bit older

Cole wasn’t feeling it this morning. I woke him up, he said he wanted to sleep. First time for everything. I don’t blame him, we haven’t seen a deer in two weeks. I’m a little burnt out as well.

I hear ya. I actually concell carry especially when its not gun season.not much to worry about but rattlers, rabies, and these dang people do portable meth cooks in the forest.im from these areas and you take care of yourself. no cell service and a 911 call may take an hour for them to get there. so where im from LEO basically does the paper work. kind of sad you have to worry about this stuff in the wild.

Well our last day of rifle. hit it hard yesterday. didnt go today either. im burnt out. saw 4 does and a 5pt and 7pt yesterday.here is one of our best stands. flat on the side of the mtn. cliffs to the left, hollows too steep to bring one up in all other direction and thick.my spot yesterday morning.my favorite spot. a guest shot this one last week out of it,was the smaller of 3bucks using it. im done till late muzzle week before Christmas. the stand is a saddle between 2 hill tops.BEE2033D-99A1-469C-B85E-91CAFF5C1E61.jpg894A5DD5-DA72-4C09-8206-7A1C518224A7.jpg820A5BDE-B311-4988-A7DE-D199ABDD0994.jpgB4979A01-00F6-48BF-AEE2-5F26B1F65AA0.jpg

Look what she fell beside of. There are horned bushes from the base of the mountain all the way up. Who knows what area the bucks are in. Last day of rifle season, but have 3 weeks of late muzzleloader coming up.

Well, she turned hard just as I squeezed the trigger. Broke her down in the back end. When she stopped rolling, it was lights out. So yeah, one to the head (from 150 yards!). She was about 150 yards through the woods and I was using a single leg rest. One ham may not be salvageable. I’m having it cut up, told them to take out the loins and grind the rest into burger. I’m not pleased with the shot, not one bit, going next week to check the rifle.

The boy missed his first shot ever at a deer this evening. I give him credit for everything after the shot. Waited, went and found exactly where it stood when he shot, found the tracks, etc. clean miss.
