Dealership saying it’s one issue? But codes are saying it’s more.

I payed 150 for a diagnostic yesterday(I know), to see exactly what the issues were. The technician says it’s just 2 hoses that aren’t clamped right/loose. I had 6 codes popping up. They did a reset and said the other codes were pending, but that the only issue was those 2 hoses. After driving it for an hour afterwards the check engine light came on, and other one as well. What would you guys do?

You can easily get six codes for ONE hose if it's in the emissions system, but regardless, if they soaked you $150 diag fee, told you 'this' was the problem, and the codes returned, I'd go back and explain that I don't expect to be charged anything more to diagnose the problem and please GTFO with it. All that said, you can buy a pretty decent code reader for $150...

I just paid to get the diagnose. They wanted 400 just to change 2 hoses.

it was the evap hoses. Saying it was loose and cracked, they were changed prior to this, and weren’t loose at all. I’m going to get new clamps, just to make sure.

I was thinking the same, but I need to get those hoses fixed before I do. Since that’s what they’re saying it is. Honestly this is kinda bs.

Likely it's a canister issue if there's 6 codes for evap, you would need to share them for us to help out.

Ouch , Thats a pricey diagnostic from the stealership . Your truck is well over 10 years old and local garages can fix these issues with ease for much cheaper

Put hoses on yourself.. if you can change the clamps, you can do the hoses at the same time. Your truck is 14 years old, it may very well have cracked hoses.

You paid for a diagnostic and got one, why are you upset?

well it was the evap hoses, and we were recommended that it could also be the the vacuum surge.

I will get a reading and post the codes.

My issue is I paid to get what the issues were. They clearly said the other issues were pending. So i just paid 150 to get one issue resolved, when they’re a couple more.

Pending is in context of the codes, codes can be either stored, pending, or both simultaneously.

You haven’t fixed a single part yet but are upset because you think it’s unrelated to the issues with the hoses? Replace the hoses. Replace the clamps. Make sure everything is tight.

Eliminate the issue they pinpointed before getting upset about it not being sufficiently explained. In the meantime, learn a little more about OBD2 codes so you have a better understanding of what you’re hearing/reading.

You might have an issue with the hoses alone, so fix that first. Then go from there. You seem well intended, but also seem like you expected more from a diagnostic test than what that test provides. You have the next step laid out in front of you, go that route. Fix it. Report back.

    Time to sue.....j/k

in all honesty, if there were codes, you could have just brought it to autozone/advanced auto/oreilly and they could have told you what the codes were and then you could decide what needed to be done.

I'll add to that list as I had that code. My issue was the gasket at the Y pipe from the cat.

But yes, the codes are NOT the direct issue most of the time. Something is happening elsewhere and the code is the symptom.

A leaking vacuum hose can cause some haywire as well. Check ends for cracks and cut back or replace as needed.
