As stated in my welcome aboard post 8 years ago, I've wanted a 1st gen Tacoma since high school. So I bought a 2012... Ended up selling it before I left Hawaii, because money. Spent the next couple years having mostly bad ideas and throwing money into various holes.

BUT NOW! I have a new hole to throw money into! A hole I plan to keep around for awhile. And this thread is to let you guys watch and laugh at my foolishness. Mostly though it's going to be to keep my ideas and priorities in order.

Here's a picture of Josie my new 2001 SR5 4x4 V6 Manual boosted from the Craigslist ad. She looked much nicer in the ad.

    84679497_10156546433912234_5527031900977233920_n.jpg

PO didn't know as much about here as I would prefer, but some digging around proved it has an All Pro lift with billies and All Pro uppers. 285/70R17 KO2s (almost ready to be swapped out) on some beat up Pro Comp series 31 rims. (Might keep these for a set of dedicated snow wheels.)

I don't usually like to take on someone else's project, but due to time constraints, and a history of throwing money into holes I wasn't in a place to start fresh. Instead of building from the ground up, I'll replace as issues show up.

Issues almost immediately showed up. On the way home the random bulbs he jammed in sockets to make the sale burned out. The next day when I did a tune up I found three different types of spark plugs making up the set of six, and the rear axle breather was replaced with a plug.

Anyway, I gave her a bit of a once over and took her up in the hills to find adventure... and mud. Mission accomplished.

Oh also, the obligatory first mod. If you know you know...

Let's see how this one comes together.

    PROJECTS ON DECK:
    -Unused wires delete
    -Replace lights

    WISH LIST:
-Replace worn out Billies with Kings
-New stereo that works every time
    -E-lockers
    -Seats
-KM3s on FN Countersteer Offroad (three season)
    -Body work

    SUPRISES!:
    -Cap is garbage
    -Wheel well liners blew out

Thanks, as soon as I bought my MGM back in 2012 I immediately wished I had got it in Super White.

Might have found part of the issue with my high idle. I’ll send it off to Maxbore while I’m on the road, for now a good cleaning.

Got the throttle body back from Maxbore today and what a difference. I’m now sitting right about 1000rpm idle. Sooo happy.

UPDATE: down to 800rpm right where I want to be, and my check engine light is finally out.

Today’s project was a quick one, my rear diff breather had turned itself into a plug.

I had already ordered the Blais Bros Tacos relocation kit, so I finally got around to installing it. Stupid simple install with quality parts. Plus it’s all in one place so if you’re as lazy as I am it’s a worth every penny.

got this for my 3rd gen and didn't install. Happy to see it fits our 1st gen, have to get on it when it dries up out there.

Totally. Fits perfect with a little slack to make up for any movement.

thanks for the shout out man! Anyone can message me or @Blais03 if interested!

Works on first gens, just have to place the breather in the gas door instead of the bed box

Well I had to unfreeze my parking brake, and replace the cable so I figured I’d service everything in the rear. I figured the rear was now fresh, but I planned on doing the Tundra brake upgrade this winter so I’d throw some cheap pads in the front.

    D3FAC3E3-6457-4107-956B-76C6F3272E08.jpg

That’s when I found three of eight pistons frozen beyond saving (I have a broken C clamp to prove it). Tundra brakes quickly moved up the list... Fairly easy install with the Adventure Taco hardline kit (https://adventuretaco.com/making-it-right-tacoma-to-tundra-brake-upgrade/), and I’m stoked with the upgrade.

You can’t really tell from the picture, but I got the 285/70R17 AT3Ws put on. Infinitely happier with them over all, but the rub just backing out of the driveway where as the same size KO2s never even came close. I’ll have to do some digging see if the tire shop played with anything, the front end does look like it’s sitting lower now than before.

falkens run a little bigger then BFGs do, that’s probably where your rub is coming from. Truck Looks great though

Well thanks to the awesome write up by @turbodb, supplemented by visuals from Timmy’s videos, I managed to change my timing belt and basically everything around it in record time! (longest time ever..) Actually sort of amazed it started first try. Also managed to fix the heat while I was waiting for parts.

Next step might be a little bit of rhinoplasty. All this recent work has uncovered A LOT of hidden issues though, I’ll have to decide if it’s worth dumping more money into.

Were you able to resolve your rubbing issue with the Falkens? I just installed the same on my 3rd Gen and am rubbing pretty hard when backing up and there are two of us - my buddy and I are 230+ each - in the front seats.

Not yet, but to be fair I haven’t started trying yet. Took forever to get everything in for the timing belt so that went way longer than expected. Now I’m starting on the new front bumper which should give me some more clearance. Probably won’t know for sure until I get back from the road this summer.
