All 2014 and newer vehicles have crash data, (black box) info recorded. That box knows more than you do about what happens in your vehicle, every sensor in that car is recorded. A judge has to authorize the government/LE to view that data so I would be very surprised if Toyota would be allowed to view it without your permission or a court order. Yes, it sucks, but it's there.

#15 in the fuse box under the dash.

Its listed as ABS, there is no air bag fuse.

Would it be better to pay for the repairs out of pocket versus an insurance claim? Filing an insurance claim would flag the vehicle as being in an accident with airbag deployment? People generally would infer that to have been a bad accident with vehicle damage without knowing the full detail I would think.

This is what's recorded according to the owners manual posted by the below user. Toyota can still look at it. They just cannot disclose the information to a third party unless consent is given by the owner or under an order by law.

Sure do, if a dealer wants to deny a claim it's not hard.

If you pull fuse #15 ABS will that affect the Crawl Control which uses the ABS?

I fed you incorrect info. I got my ABS and SRS acronyms mixed up. It's #10 fuse, not 15. Sorry.

Yes, the ABS will mess up the crawl control.

Do the 3rd Gens have an audible alarm which sounds prior to the airbags going-off if the truck is at a steep angle? A friend of mine has a 2nd Gen Pre-Runner and once while driving off-road at a steep angle at a slow speed we heard the alarm (sounded like the seat belt minder, but we both had them on). In our case the airbags didn't deploy but had we stayed at that angle much longer I'm assuming they would have. I wonder if the 3rd Gens have the same sort of alarm?

Damn, I’ve gone hard at Pismo in my 2nd gen with side curtains and never even thought of this.

Mine is before the RSCA switch though. Wonder if it’s more sensitive now?

I mean it was just an accident. Can't you just say you were going 45 mph hit a bump and lost control went at an angle and for some reason the bags blew? I am just trying to imagine a case where the claim would be denied by the insurance co? Also if it goes on the record of the vehicle, when you sell, couldn't you just say "I was off-roading once because these trucks are sweet and was at steep angle/hit a bump and the bags blew,,,and simply show them the receipt where the only repair done was airbag replacement?"

LOL Would you buy that? or would you picture this when the seller was telling their story...

    "Just hit a bump"

Either way, OP learns an expensive lesson. At least he has a story to tell and it wasn't much worse than it is.

Insurance still covers stupid decisions. You just pay for it with increased premiums. It won't be denied. Just give the facts and let the repairs be made. You are not going to surprise the dealer.

Most airbags I've seen work on a magnet based switch. Theres a gold plated ball bearing on one side held there with a magnet. On the other end of the switch theres 2 open contacts. If the forces are great enough to have that bearing come off of the magnet then airbags will blow . If you pulled the fuse the airbags would still pop once power was restored due to the circuit being completed in the sensor

I see it. The 10A fuse on the 5th row down. I'm gonna research if it self resets when reinstalled.

If the bags are blown, its not resetting itself.
